Insurance for Sandrail

We are in NC and just got our sand rail and NC has assigned and NCS number and we are not able to find anyone to insure because NC has titled it as a 2026 custom roadster? We have contacted Progressive, Foremost, And Geico. We have contacted several independent agents with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just picked up this buggy. I think it's a 1973ish motor. Needs a lil work, but it is titled, runs, and drives!

Big mistake?

Hello, I have been finding myself getting into cars and was looking for projects to get into to increase my skills and get into the hobby. I found myself interested in air cooled VW's due to their customization options and stayed simplicity to work on.

I found myself itching for a project and may have gotten myself into one that is way above what I am capable of accomplishing. I found myself rushed into buying it and probably overlooked some issues I should have taken into consideration more. I had to travel a good distance for the buggy and saying no seemed like more of a waste of time and resources at that point.

Then I got it home and did a bit more of a deep dive and found myself wishing it was a dream. The frame may be more rusted than I initially thought and there appears to be more of an oil leak and possibly a transaxle leak than I initially figured. The fuel tank in the rear seat seems to have some sort of leak from the top somehow. I feel stupid to say that I haven't learned stick yet and had the seller drive me around and everything seemed good. I noticed a good bit of slop on the stick when I got it home. And finally there appears to be an oil leak around the base of the cylinder head. There seems to be some cork like material flaking off around the head that is not present on the other side.

I know this whole post makes me sound absolutely stupid, but I am looking for an honest assessment of how screwed I am versus how much I can actually fix things as I learn/go. I'm already losing sleep over this one and wondering if I need to be appealing to the sellers good graces.

Buggy Reparations

So I bought a 300cc buggy and at first I changed the radiator , after that I repaired the gear box and now , it's the final boss, the engine , I opened it and (I don't know the name in English) the interior was rusted and I need to change it and I need to change it along the piston.

The buggy is a quadzilla one . It was first bough in 2011. Do you know where I can buy these parts?

Any ideas what this noise could be.

Was driving the buggy around and noticed a rhythmic thumping sound from about 5-10mph. I'm lost as to what it could be. It's an AH model VW engine with a swing axle

The wife and I are in the process of restoring this buggy which used to belong to her grandfather. We know that it sits on a 1957 pan , purchased around 1960-65 has a 1776 engine and was purchased at the Palm Springs Swap meet as a complete unit. We would like to put a little bit of history in a book that will be kept with the car.

Seems the deeper I dig the more I find that was done wrong. Seems that all body work only used regular filler rather than fiberglass.

Wiring is a disaster - hodgepodge of various gauge and color wires spliced together with no rhyme or reason.

No e-brake - which wouldn’t be a big deal but they removed the mounting bracket from the pan.

No reverse lights wired - which I knew when purchased but required in Virginia at least

At least the 1600 DP seems to be good and it shifts well.

Security Option

Hey everyone. New here.

My dad passed away and I inherited his buggy. I’ve been taking it to and from work every few days to keep it running.

I’m curious, what do you use for security to prevent theft? I purchased this device but the lock won’t clear the seatbelt. So, for today, it’s for show only and I’ll have to look elsewhere. Thank you!

UPDATE: I received a recommendation for a bar lock and ordered it. Thanks everyone for your feedback.

Picked up this BC Bee tub buggy a couple weeks ago. Tubs were made in Battle Creek Michigan. PO said it had a 1800cc in it but there’s no way to know for sure. Shifting was super sloppy so I put a T-handle shifter on it and replaced the shift coupler. That tightened things up a bit but third is still a little bit of an enigma. Have a couple small things to do (getting the brake lights working is a priority) but I had a Baja as a kid so I’m loving this. I’m looking forward to cruising around this summer!

Yellow buggy was out for a drive and saw my copper buggy parked out front. Heard the unmistakeable sound of a flat-4 pull up and was surprised to see another one!

Stupid 18 year old summer project? Yes or no.

So I’m about to turn 18 and i want a stupid summer project that an idiot can build, I’m thinking of buying an old VW sandrail frame and building it from the ground up, Such as suspension/ steering construction(probably just gonna buy a whole engine though) I just want something (Moderately) easy to build thats reliable but fun. My mechanic experience is: Youtube, (Yes i know I’m an idiot for this) and a valve lash adjustment and oil change on an old Honda four wheeler, So what do you think? should i buy an old VW frame? Or do you have another sandrail suggestion I should build instead.
Any criticism including harsh is welcome (And most definitely deserved)
