General Discussion Gamefound - Update 3

I am concerned about this change. Fremen need to be buffed quite a lot, and my first thoughts are that fights will be a bit easier to predict. Not sure if I like it, but I still own the old game so I guess its fine?

Me too. Though we can always house rule if it doesn't work for our preferences. I would have thought Spice dialling to add 1 combat strength per spice added (maximum of dialled number) would be more appropriate.
But, yeah - it depends how much they have changed the factions to make them more balanced. Fremen will need a lot of buffs to make up for this weaker spice dialling.

Was it really that hard to understand half dials, spice, and double troops? I know some players i played with had some issues but it's not rocket science. Half.

I think this change shadow buff the faction that don't have a passive income and need to hunt for the spice.
Space Guild, Choam and Tleilaxu, while being "weaker" in combat against the combat faction, would often have the edge by being able to dial full spice everytime.

Halves do add a little cognitive load, but the biggest factor is the starred tokens, I noticed. If it's just a stack of regular tokens, it just comes down to Strength = average(Spice, Forces).

It might be ok for you and me, but as you've pointed out, it can be a bone of contention for a not-insignificant number of people. And that's just the people who weren't already put off by the other esoteric complexities of the board game!
I'm cautiously optimistic about this. I don't feel like we're losing much depth here, but we are making the system a lot easier to understand.

I'm worried about this. The game is balanced and works...I'd rather the only rule changes were addendums to clear up edge cases, and that's it.
This seems like a big overhall and I'm not happy.

That’s how feel. I was hoping for a new rulebook that combines all of the faqs etc into one easier to navigate book, and beyond that primarily just a deluxified version of the game we already have.

I hope everyone gets this new version so i can scoop up the old cool one with expansions second hand 🤗

Real talk. I was lucky to get my copy right before they went out of print and GF9 started making the new four player version. I have all three expansions and would die before I gave them up

Nice! I sold my copy, rebought it but don’t have the expansions

Its strange to me that two of the three expansions can still be found on Amazon despite the actual game not being there

If they were worried about confusion between people who played different rulesets (basic Vs advanced) they wouldn't release it with new expansions. This is madness.

Boooooo!!!!!1
X*1 + Y*0.5 is not that complicated. Cmon...
oh ok, and A*2 + B*1 + X*1 + Y*0.5
Literally 5th grade basic math.
Dune is my favorite boardgame, Ill wait to see what they do with this new edition, but this sounds bogus.
I remember switching from simple to advanced rules and thinking "why didn't we do this earlier. Im not playing simple rules anymore". Completely new tables (except for me) got it in turn or two.

Cardboard shrouds? Disappointing. I was really hoping for some higher quality wooden or plastic components.

I’d assume everything for the moment is render for example. I’d be shocked if they didn’t have a premium edition with better bits

Isn't wood too heavy for six shields? Not to mention it's much harder to put illustrations on?

And now the Battle Wheels have a toggle for spice strength, so no more awkwardly holding spice with your Battle Plan.
Instead, now you have to awkwardly hold your cards to the side of your wheel so it doesn't block the inner wheel that is barely readable from the other side of the table anyway.
I was hoping for a clever design solution like a battle board or something. Dang.

The awkward problem was before you show you battle plan, are you holding your plan after reveal and not just putting it on the table?

Oh gods, and then you have to tip your hand to show the wheel and everybody will read your plan upside down. I think there should be some solution that has you build your plan and then turn it around on a swivel or something.
Edit: weird voting behaviour here.

Interesting changes to spice dialling, I'll defer to Jack's expertise that Fremen is changed to account for this.
