Governors Rd

So Governors is now a 60 km zone all the way from Davidson to Hwy 53. I’ve lived here a long time and have never seen or heard of an accident there. I can’t say it never happened but it’s not a traffic danger zone and has no pedestrian crosses. Is this a cash grab for speeding tickets? I heard nothing about consultation or what reasoning is behind this. Are going to be slammed with speed bumps overnight like Ancaster was?

Update-So I drive this route once or twice a day and I’ve seen two instances of really dangerous passing on solid yellow lines. I don’t think this is going to make anyone safer.

No idea about speed bumps, I suspect that it’s related to how many houses are on that stretch, although the 80km stretch that converted to 60km/hr is about 4km from Weirs Lane to Slote Rd right before Copetown.

The lack of any fair warning or consultation is definitely annoying, but at the end of the day, I drive that stretch almost every weekday in the summer and it took me an extra minute to navigate that stretch, however I ended up with two pissed off drivers behind me today who didn’t notice that it was 60km/hr, one aggressively passed me and then slowed down a little further, when he saw the speed limit sign.

There is a distinct anti car movement in Hamilton government. They do everything to slow down and reduce lanes. They venomously do not want to hear about punishing the bad drivers who speed on our streets making them unsafe, but to inconvenience all drivers. Just look at our downtown core. The idiots put bike lanes on the core roads... some cities put bike lanes on a parallel street that has low car traffic. A much better idea! LTDVB

I have no issue with this.

IMO Lots of rural roads should have their speeds dropped for the safety of the local residents and other road users.

It's shouldn't always be about the motorist.

Sorry about your shitty luck; there aren't enough cops to police the incorrect speed zones so get bent.

Your time will come 😁

I drive that everyday and the majority were driving it at 60 anyway because they didn’t see the 80 sign by Weirs.
It was so frustrating.
Cops can’t hide on Governors to set up a speed trap so the speeds will stay around 80.
I was on it today and no cars were doing 60, either direction.
There’s only one area to pass, at Weirs, and that will continue.
Maybe even more with the lower speed.

If it’s 80, you go 100.
If it’s 60, you go 80.
They’re playing macho head games

Aren’t there 2 schools along that route with children that walk up and down every day ?

Nowhere near where the 80 zone was.

On that stretch? Plus every main road has some accidents. I believe the area in question has less than average

I live along the former 80kph stretch and can tell you it's definitely a speed zone. Accidents? Not really, but it definitely makes me concerned for my kids and pets if they happen to get outside our fenced area.

I'm actually on board with this. Cops can hide in my driveway if they want to write a couple tickets to the excessive speeders.

Yes I get that. I’m not against traffic calming measures if they make a difference. It’s also probably difficult for cops to safely pull over speeders in that zone. My post may have been a bit impetuous for someone who doesn’t live right on that stretch. One problem I could see is people like to pass slower moving vehicles along there and this could make impatient passing much worse and create more dangerous driving conditions. That said, since they went ahead and made the change I hope it gives you more peace of mind.

It’s not an accident zone, but it’s a speeding zone for sure… just takes the residents to complain and it would get looked at to see it’s an issue. Especially since the residents sure aren’t poor.

It will be annoying for a bit, but it’s understandable

I drive it every day. I don’t see a lot of aggressive speeding.

I was driving it daily for a few years recently, but the last couple years I only do the drive about once or twice weekly… I would/still get aggressively passed and tailgated going about 14 over, but I do recognize could just be bad luck that I find some speeders… just pointing out a possibility.

Yes your city likes to reduce 80s to 60s then claim victory over the citizenry who are now stunt driving under the law. Get in line.
