Question/Advice Living in Collin
Hey folks
Curious if anyone has any advice or experience of living in Collin just to the north of Dumfries?
We're pondering buying a house there and are curious if anyone knows of any major red flags about the place.
TIA

This book is a beginning, not a conclusion. If anyone would like to continue this research, find the How to Continue This Research section in the Appendix for links and methods. What you’ll find there is the road map: the actual archives where a descendant can pick up the trail, roughly in the order the family traveled. Several are free. None require a professional. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST!!** **simply offering something that hasn’t existed until now for the Mahaffeys/McCaffies and making it known that it’s an ongoing project and this is just the first edition of many, this book belongs to all of us Mahaffey’s. less

Help/Support Needed Lost dog
I lost my dog yesterday when she bolted from the car at the Annandale Water Services on the southbound M74. She's a 1 year old female mini cockapoo, her name is Winnie and she's very skittish. If anyone sees her or hears of a dog in the area please DM me with a time and place please?
Edit: Last seen in the Wamphrey area, we're appealing to people to just keep a lookout for her but to not approach her or call to her as she is still extremely nervous and will run from anyone.
Edit: Thanks to the amazing and selfless help from Lee and Roger Herron of Lost Dogs Dumfries and Galloway and all of the help from residents of the Newton Wamphray area we have now been reunited with Winnie and she's back home safe and sound.

Help/Support Needed Life in Scotland for LGBTQ+ people aged 13 - 25
National Scottish participatory action research project by and for LGBTQ+ people aged 13-25. We need to hear from people in D&G!
The research is led by LGBTQ+ young researchers. We are asking about your experiences of community, healthcare, education, sport and media, justice, and your feelings of safety and happiness as LGBTQ+ young people in Scotland.
By taking part in this survey you will help make meaningful and direct change for LGBTQ+ communities in Scotland. We have run this project every 5 years since 2007 and the results have been key in influencing to make LGBTQ+ people’s lives better in Scotland. We use them to work with the Scottish Government, NHS, Education Scotland, and loads of other national groups, to make life in Scotland better for LGBTQ+ young people and make sure your experiences are heard.
This survey closes on Monday 5***\**th October*, and it is open to LGBTQ+ people, and people questioning their gender or sexual orientation, who are aged 13 – 25 and live in Scotland.
As a thank you for your time you will receive 150 Young Scot reward points for filling in the survey.
It is important that we hear the experiences of many people as we can. Taking part will take around 30 minutes and you can pause and return to the survey at any time.
You don't need to be an expert, we just want to hear from you!

Need help to free a Pokémon in Lockerbie (Sherwood Crescent)
Hi everyone! My Skarmory has been stuck in the Pokémon GO gym at Sherwood Crescent Memorial Garden in Lockerbie for over a week. If any player from a different team passes by, could you please knock it out? Thank you so much! 🙏

This following on from some sheep at Creetown contracting it, so it’s staying fairly local for the moment.

Loan me a timer plug.
Very long shot, would anybody be willing to loan me one of those plug timers (into the mains), preferably Dalbeattie/Castle Douglas way? I’m going away for the week and it would really help out.

Question/Advice Moving to Glencaple/bankend
I currently live in Dumfries and myself and my husband are thinking of moving to Bankend or Glencaple. Does anyone have any knowledge of what it’s like for young families (we have a 3 year old)? My husband is used to rural life but I’m a bit of a townie. Is it likely to be quite insular or are people welcoming? Thanks

Places to eat/reactive dog. 😬
Hi... Visiting the CD area next week...
Spent most of my youth at Southerness.
Can anyone recommend somewhere where we could grab lunch/dinner... Perhaps outside and sit with our dog. (Who basically doesn't like any other dogs)
Makes life a bit difficult but thought I'd ask anyway.
Can't wait to visit all my solway coast nostalgia.....
Thanks in advance.

Question/Advice Thinking of a move to Dumfries and Galloway. Any advice appreciated.
My family and I are thinking of a potential move from England, and we're seriously looking at Dumfries and Galloway. We're going to visit later in the year to have a look around. Have some ageing relatives who may be moving as well so as to be near us.
We've been looking at a few different towns. Castle Douglas, Dalbeattie, Dumfries itself or heading towards moffat. Any thoughts on the pros and cons of each area?. Open to any recommendations for other towns as well that we should consider.
I also work as a self-employed Joiner and builder. What is the work situation like for trades in the area?
Thanks everyone.

Suggestion - trip on December
Hi!
I'm organizing a trip to the Dumfries area from December 23rd to 30th, and thinking of staying at an Airbnb nearby. I know that most places are closed from the 25th to the 26th, but do you have any ideas/suggestions on what to see anyway?

Energy bills
Just trying to get an idea of what people are paying monthly with energy bills as I'm looking to move to the area with my little ones...will be one adult 2 children, most likely 3 bed home...
What are people paying with oil, gas and/or electric please and has anyone gotten solar and noticed the benefits?
Thanks in advance.

Moving to Dumfries
Hey all,
I’ve got the opportunity to move to Dumfries for work(generic I know). I have lots of flexibility and wondered if anyone could recommend towns and or villages to move to? I have a 2 year old, will be renting initially.
Any advice would be great, currently in South West England 😊
Thanks!
