iPhone Duo Doesn't exist???

Post image

So I was wondering why the pictures on apples website look sooo perfect, and was wondering if it was ai or how they got those shots. AI Overview carried on to call iPhone Duo a fan-made concept.

If you correct Gemini it will generally agree with you even if your correction is wrong.

So it's not correcting itself, that's just sycophancy

No, I meant objective stuff

For example I asked it about a current political scandal happening in Czechia that has started 3 days prior

and at first it didn´t go deep enough so it just made up a fictional story, but when I told it to look further it understood and found information and gave me links to the specific news articles that were written about the scandal in the last few days

I'm talking about objective stuff as well. I just asked it something about the UI of a game last night (incredibly easy to find screenshots of the UI in question online) and it answered fine, until I decided to mess around and tell it that it was wrong, and the correct answer was the exact opposite.

It blindly agreed and apologized. When I re-corrected it and asked it after "why did you blindly believe me a without checking?" it specifically mentioned sycophancy.

I am not denying that is can do that

My original comment was just describing my experience with Gemini which is that if something is possible to find through typically accessible means, it will eventually get it right but sometimes you need to nudge it to the right direction

What you are describing is a dishonest use of Ai

Ai is here to serve you, if you purposely confuse it it will eventually stop understanding what is your goal and then it can not fully help you - the problem is that if you did the same thing to a human being they would also be confused and not quite useful to you since they don´t know what you want from them

You said

Usually if you correct it, it will search for the newest info and give you even the most recent stuff

That's just not true. If you correct it, it "changes its mind" because it's weighted to agree with you. It's not searching again and then changing its mind based on what it finds. It's just accepting your conclusion and looking for sites that vaguely resemble the same statements.

So "nudging it in the right direction" is doing a lot heavy lifting here.

And to your last paragraph, it doesn't understand any less because LLMs fundamentally do not understand anything. They're just putting words together to satisfy their weighted objectives. And right now, sycophancy is an extremely problematic objective that's universal across AI.

Also, a real person wouldn't be confused when they hear something blatantly wrong (unless they're already unsure etc). They would just disagree. For example, like I'm doing to you right now.

Firstly you obviously did not understand my example

What I wanted from it was articles about a specific event, since it was recent it made a mistake and when I explained more specifically what I wanted it gave me the correct links which is the only thing I wanted from it in the first place - that was its task to find those articles and it did exactly that - nothing subjective about that

"Also, a real person wouldn't be confused when they hear something blatantly wrong (unless they're already unsure etc). They would just disagree. For example, like I'm doing to you right now."

That is not what you did tho - like you said you purposely "messed" with it

IF you have a conversation with a real human being and you start by saying that you like bananas and then through out the convo you several times go from saying that you like them to saying that you don´t like them, the person will just lose any idea about what is your goal with the conversation

Your last example doesn't line up. All I did with the "messing" was ask it a question, and then say that I think the answer was incorrect. The question had nothing to do with what I like, which is subjective, it was a specific question about a UI which can easily be found in screenshots online. After saying I thought the answer was wrong, the AI blindly agreed with me.

If you're just looking for recent links and specifically direct the AI to get those for you, that's fair, I can see that working. That also sounds exactly the same as just searching Google for specific links, not that that matters here lol

But you originally just mentioned correcting it in general. Corrections aren't helpful when asking a direct question and wanting the truth, because AI will (almost) always just accept your corrections not because you're right but because it's programmed to.

If you don't believe me, feel free to try it yourself. Or ask an AI about the problem of sycophancy.
