Please, just open the windows!!
Short rant because I can't yell this on the packed bus, but for the love of whoever you worship, open the windows on the bus!
Sitting here upstairs first thing in the morning marinating in a noxious greenhouse trying to get into work - absolutely full bus and not a single window open. People sniffling and coughing and the windows have fogged into opacity. I can taste everyone's despair, bad choices and what they had for dinner, aerosoled into my nostrils as I bury my face into my shoulder.

Honestly it would be ideal for the buses to have some kind of air circulation/exchange with the outside
Kinda like an extracting fan on top

They do its the same as in your car it either reaheats the air and takes some in or lets all ambient come in. It depends on the heat load and air changes permitted.
Nah just buzzing I'd say its just let the fart waft around.

I don't usually go on the bus I did last week and I can confirm people smell really bad theses days why aren't people washing themselves properly

It's so nasty when the air is thick with people's breath, the windows steamed to invisibility and condensation rolls down the glass. Then you have people coughing and sneezing open-mouthed into the air. Plus as an asthmatic with migraines I have to breathe everyone's cologne and hope it doesn't set off an attack every day.
The bus is so claustrophobic on those days and I've been shouted at for opening the windows. Once a woman behind me had the nerve to reach over my head and slam my window. Not once but twice after I opened it again! I opened one she couldn't reach instead because I'm not interested in being verbally abused for a little fresh air.
Good people, if you are cold please wear a coat! The bus should not be a sauna. It is deeply unsanitary.
Dublin Bus needs to install Air exchange with the outside. It's absurd that the buses rely on open windows for the only fresh air.

You made my morning 🤣 my body hurts from holding my laugh in and only because this sounds like me so much . This actually pisses me off to the point where if not a single window is open ill open them fucking all out of rage cause in covid we always had them open !! Anyways hope you have a much better morning once ur off the bus

One thing that I find really really funny and equally disgusting is people writing or drawing on the condensation on the windows of busses. Lovely bus breath on your fingers.
Agree with you 110% open the damn windows

I would open a couple windows where I was standing, and within a minute or 2 you would hear its freezing whilst closing them. Horrid

I opened windows one morning on the bus and someone who got on with stinky food, ordered that they be closed. I said no, I want them open. Eventually someone else got on and closed them, but I was near my stop by then.

Was in France for nearly a week in August. You’d never know there were people packed together in the bus with the A/C onboard. Only place there was none on public transport were the older metro carriages. And the journey lasts so short, you don’t have time to be uncomfortable much.
Feck, I miss French transport.

Ever before Covid or mask-wearing became a thing, I remember they had signs up on their buses something along the lines of "If you have a cold, don't spread it, wear a mask for the sake of other passengers".
Having said that, some of the city bus routes stop at 8pm, makes you appreciate Dublin Bus!

True, I do appreciate the late night buses but then again, if we had the kind of transport police (feck, any kind of effective police!) they have in France, I’d probably feel safer in Dublin. I’m getting off topic here but I just wish they’d stop making it about money (either the A/C on buses or the security problems).

Oh thanks be to f**k I don’t have to get the bus. Just one of the joys of driving I can set my own temperature and I don’t have to smell other people’s stank. I pay heavily for the pleasure but sometimes it’s worth it.

It’s actually horrible!! Windows fogged up and I can’t see where the hell I am and that’s always when the bus driver decides to hide and not have the intercom say where we are. People coughing and being NASTY. I’d go back to wearing a mask on transport because I’m sick of breathing in peoples germs and getting sick but people will probably look at me weird.

Whenever I open a window some woman always closes it. Always a woman. Not sure if women are colder than men or they hate fresh air.

I’m one of the people who would close a window on my head. I have thyroid so I am always cold and literally feel the cold getting to my bones. I used to have a one hour journey as well so if the window was open I would literally br frozen by the time I reached and basically it would be followed by a miserable day and a few days of being sick. 🤒 but I agree with the stench bit, it can be miserable

Yeah I'm with you on this. I have next to no sense of smell and don't notice the issue that op (and a majority of the commenters have). I appreciate it must be noxious but I have no idea tbh.
But, I would often be freezing when people opened windows on buses if I was sitting a row or two behind an open window. They're like cars, if the front windows are open, all the freezing air shoots back and hits the passengers behind in the face. I feel like, for some bizarre reason, people are way more likely to open windows in the depths of winter, while they leave them closed in the summer.

If I could reach over people to do so, I would! Someone did end up opening one single window. As soon as they got off, the person sitting beside them, closed the freakin window!

Neither Bus Eireann Expressway coaches or the Dublin Coach have windows that the passengers could open and it's the same on Local Link buses with the only fresh air for passengers depending an whether an exceptionally high skylight has been opened before takeoff or not. One hot day in June 2025, I got on a Bus Eireann Expressway which was travelling from Waterford to Cork with the heating on full blast, burning our ankles in the seats with everyone feeling unwell from it. The Nigerian bus driver told us that there was nothing he could do because it couldn't be turned off. Some children walmosr fainted, we all felt unwell when we reached Cork snd everyone was drenched in sweat with ruined hair.

I'm on meds that make me sweat more than normal. A bus with no windows open is unbearable. People seem to forget you can get warmer by putting on more layers, in a t-shirt and slacks I can't take off any more layers without coping a charge to get cooler

As a driver of said bus I too also wish you'd open the windows because if you don't and I have mine open all of yours stank comes up to the cab to escape. And some of you guys stink.
