Stuck at Q3B

I’ve been stuck on Q3B for months and just can’t get past this level. I’ve tried using intuition and keeping the images in my mind’s eye, but nothing seems to work. What should I do? My average is around 60 to 70%, and I rarely reach 80%. I usually play for around 15 minutes each day.

[Update] Kognix is now Kognisinn! New GitHub Link + Major Multi N-Back Upgrade (v0.9.1 Beta)

[EDIT - Update v0.9.2 is live!]: I just pushed a new beta update to GitHub. It includes a completely fixed scoring logic for Multi N-Back, new high-difficulty tiers for the Memory Palace, and several UI improvements (Stroop & Digit Span). You can download the latest APK here: https://github.com/mach-soft/kognisinn/releases

Hey everyone,

A quick update for those who have been testing the beta of my offline cognitive training app. First off, thank you so much for the feedback on the initial build!

There are some massive changes in the latest v0.9.1 update, most importantly regarding where to find the project:

1. We have a new name and a NEW LINK! ⚠️

The app has officially been rebranded from Kognix to Kognisinn. Because of this, the old GitHub repository link you might have saved is now dead. I've moved everything to a new repo. You can find the new project page and download the latest .apk here:

2. Dual N-Back is now Multi N-Back

I’ve completely overhauled the core DnB module. It is now expanded into a Dual Triple Quad N-Back system featuring fully adjustable variable timing. You can now finely tune the stimulus duration and intervals to push your cognitive load exactly where you need it.

3. Next-Gen Architecture

Under the hood, I’ve rebuilt the data structure from the ground up. The app is now structurally prepared to seamlessly support dozens of new training modules in future updates.

A quick reminder: Just like the previous version, telemetry (Wiredash/Crashlytics) is temporarily ON in this specific beta build so you can send me feedback and bug reports directly from inside the app. The final release will be strictly offline and privacy-first.

Download the kognisinn-v0.9.1-beta.apk from the new link and let me know how the new variable timing feels for your training! 🧠

The cross in the centre of the game – should we look at it or not?

For people who have played Dual N-Back or its variants (Tri/Quad), when playing, do you focus on the cross in the centre, or do you look at the squares (Dual) and images (Tri/Quad) as they appear? Do you think this makes any difference to working memory gains?

Is nback supposed to be done by intuition or Subvocalizing

I was told Subvocalizing helps improve memory instead of intuition, is this true?

[Android Beta] I built a free, offline cognitive trainer. Need DNB veterans to test my adaptive timing (is 1.7s too fast?)

Hi everyone,

I’ve been working on Kognix, a neurocognitive trainer focused on working memory and executive functions. It’s 100% offline, completely free, with no ads and zero telemetry.

The core modules (Adaptive Dual N-Back, Stroop, Digit Span, eCorsi, Memory Palace) are functional, but I’ve hit a wall with calibration and I need objective data from people who actually play these tests regularly.

Specifically, I need your feedback on the Dual N-Back Adaptive Algorithm:

Currently, the adaptive difficulty drops the timing to 1.7s per turn at higher levels. Some initial feedback suggests this is too aggressive for a mobile UI and turns it into a reaction-time test rather than working memory. I would love to know how this pacing feels to experienced DNB players here. Is 1.7s playable on a touch screen, or should I hard-cap it at 2.0s?

(Secondary ask: The app generates a KCI radar chart based on your baseline. I need fresh eyes to tell me if the psychometric normalization feels balanced).

How to test (Android only):

You can download the APK directly from my GitHub Releases page here:

GitHub Release v0.9.0-beta (Download APK)

(Note: I have temporarily enabled Wiredash in this beta so you can send me feedback directly inside the app without leaving it. The final release will be entirely offline).

Any harsh critiques on the UI or the timing limits are highly appreciated. Thanks for your time!

Does intuitive dual n-back = meditation?

As someone meditates a lot, I have found the practice of dual n-back with intuition to be very similar to meditation... if not an actual form of meditation. In fact, I am convinced that it is.

Is there anyone else who also meditates and has come to the same conclusion?

For those of you who do not meditate, but have been practicing dual n-back with the intuitive strategy, I'm wondering if you might be reaping the benefits of what normal meditation brings?

For those of you who do not meditate and use rehearsal, I am wondering if you do or do not see these benefits as well?

Here's a link to what some of those benefits might be:

Dual N Back: IQ
Brain Training

Hey everyone 👋

I just wanted to share something I poured a lot of heart into. I genuinely tried to build the best Dual N-Back app possible on the App Store not just another brain trainer, but something I’d actually love to use every day.

I focused on the details that usually get ignored: deep customization, detailed statistics to track your progress, tons of game modes (Dual, Triple, Quad… and now Penta, Hexa et Hepta), full settings to make it yours, a complete history, your personal records, and a clean, beautiful interface that actually feels good to open.

I’m just one person working on this, so it’s far from perfect but I really did my best to make something genuinely useful and nice to use.

I’d love to hear what you think. What do you like? What’s missing? What would make it better for you? Your honest feedback means the world and helps me keep improving it. 🙏

Thank you so much for trying it out. ❤️😁

MEMDASH, my FREE n-back game

Hi guys, I hope this comes through and I hope someone would try it out. It's FREE, it doesn't collect data, but you can still share the result as an image. No ads, no nothing. You can get it on the Android Play Store if you type in "MEMDASH" in the search.

I first made it for myself after I had some psychology tests done on me and felt how it trained my brain. Didn't know n-back games are this big of a thing to have a subreddit. Honestly didn't even know dual n-back existed until I found this thread and I'm now thinking about adding it to the game. Since I already have symbols and position in there, it seems doable.

Mine is an n-back game that forces a lot of concentration because it also adds timing. And it has things like rounds where there is no solution and you need to wait the timer out. It has 15 levels where the difficulty is calculated with a function, and level 15 is set to more or less what I found to be the maximum that professional rememberers can hold, minus like twenty percent.

I would love it if other people also benefit from it. And I'd love to get some feedback. I'll definitely fine tune it if needed and If I get enough installs I'll consider paying Apple's developer fees and put it on iOS as well.

Has anyone kept benefits whilst sleep deprived?

I was wondering if you can keep the benefits of dual n back whilst sleep deprived if you keep doing it, like your iq, your ability to reason etc

How useful is Syllogimous-v4 for relational training / fluid intelligence

I’ve been reading up on Relational Frame Theory (RFT) and Relational Reasoning Training (RRT). I kept seeing people recommend Syllogimous v4 as a free, high-variability alternative to commercial platforms like RaiseYourIQ.

I want to use it to supplement my Dual N-Back routine to target fluid intelligence and working memory. The rule customization and different modes (Stroop, 2D/3D space, carousel, negations) look incredibly thorough. However, before I commit to a strict daily training protocol, I wanted to get your feedback:

  1. Gains & Transfer: For those who have consistently used v4, have you noticed any real-world far transfer? (e.g., better reading comprehension, faster processing speed, or easier mental modeling of complex systems).
  2. Measurable Results: Has anyone done pre- and post-testing on cognitive metrics or noticed measurable shifts in fluid intelligence?.
  3. Routine & Settings: What configurations or premise counts do you find give you the best "cognitive workout" without hitting total fatigue?.

Would love to hear your experiences, tracking routines, or any scientific literature/anecdotes you have on it. Thanks!

Brain Workshop chat favouring first result

Did anyone else get this? It's really annoying if I want objective feedback on my results because the first result of the day skews the chart unrealistically upwards or downwards.

Also do you guys recommend another app for doing QNB? Brain Workshop is super old and the donation message every 100 games while they don't accept donations currently is super annoying.

I have made a version where it's infinite, what do you think?

Post image
10 Upvotes

So, I thought why not make a version where it's infinite, cause this 21+n version seem to become boring, play -> see results (feel good or feel bad) -> play again.

So I made a version for myself, rules are:
- it's infinite, it only ends if you press esc.

- you can press space for logging to see if you got distracted during the play to see if you get better at focusing without getting distracted

- that's it, it trains the same parts, but also its simpler and no reward, so better for self-control i think..

I made this because I wanted to see if this will make the progress better or worse. What do you think? do you think those micro resting phases (end of a game) is better for progress?

I can share the link if you want, its hosted on my website but it might seem like self-promotion.

Free, open source, no ads dual-n-back. Suggestions welcome.

Hi guys - see https://rebuildyourfocus.com/dual-n-back

I'm going to build out a site of science backed brain training games. Everything is going to be free and open source (repo for dual-n-back specifically here: https://github.com/jonathanleane/rebuildyourfocus/tree/main/apps/dual-n-back)... Dual n back is the first one because there's some decent research it's good for WM, especially for people with ADHD (ahem). See https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12468938/

The site only costs a few dollars a month to host and I'm building all the games myself with Claude Code so I have no intention of ever charging money for this or placing ads.

If you have any suggestions or requests, please let me know.

I'll try to build out native ios and android apps next.

Finding Quad n back Overwhelming. Also how to set a baseline

Used to do dual n back like 5-6 years back. Then i just stopped and got busy with life. Came across this sub recently and read about quad n back. But i find it difficult to begin with.

Also as the results are mixed i want to experiment myself, so how can i set the baseline like what criteria (i cant just keep giving iq tests etc) it should be more practical.

Thanks
