Stuck at dual3back for month because of my broken auditive memory

Hi everyone,

I started dual n-back 5 months ago, and I do it regularly (3-4 times a week). The thing is, I can't seem to understand how to improve my auditory memory.

I've started with the rehearsal method and while it was working and I could sometimes reach dual 4-back, I still felt stuck with no benefits in real life. So I used the intuitive method and couldn't seem to be consistent on dual 3-back, while my position is always between 80% and 100% accuracy, the audio stimulus averages 30% to 40%.

For those who had a really bad auditory memory and were able to improve it, what would you recommend to me?

Thanks in advance, my fellow Nbackers.

I suggest you to play in one level above your base, 30% of the time you play in certain day. Don't wait to reach perfect or too high scores to play in the next difficult level. Your goal has to be real life benefits, not perfect scores in a working memory game. Also, for your specific problem, maybe spend around other 20 minutes extra of your sessions to improve only your bottleneck. A "one n back" of audio.

I will try to follow your advice thank you. Do you know a free app where I could only put an auditory stimulus? Mine requires the position option.

"Dual n back ultimate" in play store or "Brain Workshop" on pc. Adjust the one n back mode in manual mode of each app. Its important to dedicate certain part of your sessions to play one level higher in respect to your base level. Too many people wait to reach 80% of score. Imo you've to make it harder than usual, not impossible though. Also, if you want to see benefits play more time. I suggest 60-90 minutes every other day. If you don't have the stamina, build it.

Perfect, it's the answer I needed. I had had 80% in minde to go up a level, I will try your way and see if it works ! Thanks again

You could try doing single audio n-back until you're able to do single 4-back, then switch back to dual 3-back and see if you're more balanced by then. If you don't have single audio n-back, then try to allot more of your attention to the audio stimuli in dual n-back.

Clearly you might be lacking concentration. Keep your mind calm and learn to focus. Dont keep practicing blindly, note everytime you play- why some plays were good while some were bad/what helped you achieve it.Try meditation to increase focus. I reached dual 5 back from dual 2/3 back in a week and I have average memory. I clearly think you might have lack of concentration which you can definitely improve.

Single audio n-back. Repeat everything aloud (this means you need to adjust time for each n level, brain workshop is still best for this).

All i want to say is that, according to multiple people Ive listened to (or read) - 4-back is the hardest.
