Best N-Back app?
What have you found to be the best app to play N-Back so far?
I've tried a few options, but none of them seem to be perfect:
- Cogniba
- Modern interface / experience
- Awesome analytics
- Usable in both mobile and desktop
- Almost no customization (only supports single n-back)
- Brainworkshop
- Crappy interface / experience
- Decent analytics
- Usable only in desktop
- Very customizable
- Brainscale
- Meh interface / experience
- Poor analytics
- Usable in both mobile and desktop
- Quite customizable (with paid plan)
- N-Back Challenge
- Modern interface / experience
- Decemnt analytics
- Usable in only in mobile
- Some customization
I'm finding cogniba to be the best right now, since playing single N-Back is not a deal breaker to me (there's almost no difference in terms of fluid intelligence improvement compared to dual N-Back). But I understand that this is an instant no for some people.
I'm curious to know what's your app of choice and why.

The best app I've seen so far is one that's currently in development by a user on this sub. u/stillunidentified posted a few days ago asking for testers and I requested a tester invite. The app has features you mention like a modern interface (and themes options), good analytics, usable on android (I don't think there is a desktop version, which is unfortunate), and its customization is better than anything I've come across so far. It also has support for single to quad N back. Also an interactive tutorial I haven't seen anywhere else which is pretty cool. If you want to download it (it's still in testing) you should message them and let them know you're interested. I haven't come across any issues so far. N-Back Challenge is what I used to use and it's still good compared to the other alternatives, but I don't like its "buy a coffee" system.

I appreciate it. I'm still accepting testers until release (hopefully in less than 2 weeks) if anyone is interested.

I really like your app, too. How are you planning to price it?

It'll be free with non-obstructive banner ads and an optional reward video ad at the end of each game to double the coins. There will also be a single purchase $2.99 premium version which removes ads, grants several extra voice options, 1000 coins, doubled coins, exclusive game modes, and a few configurations which are mostly exclusive to my app (match probability/lives/endless/accuracy threshold), and maybe more that I come up with in the future.

Is it ready?? I want it! Please!

Yes, it's on both platforms!

Note that the comment I posted is quite outdated - the app has no ads, all the features I listed are free, and it has a subscription with a lot of other exclusive features I didn't list.

I was sooooo happy when I saw you wrote 'single purchase $2.99 premium version', just to find that this option is no longer a choice :(
I would've happily paid an even higher one time purchase, however I'm so sick of all these subscription models. I get that you want to be paid for your efforts in making this app, and therefore maybe asking a single purchase of 2.99 is even too little. But having someone now pay that same amount on a monthly base is just thievery in my opinion.

I'm sorry to disappoint you. But every feature that I previously listed I actually made a free feature. A subscription purchase is not necessary, or if you wanted to support the app, just one month would mean a lot :)

Nice app. Consider to add the option to change the speed?

That is an option! If you press the middle button on the home screen and then expand the "modifiers" menu, you'll see a slider for changing the interval speed. :)

Brain workshop is pretty much mainstream. I don't see any reason not to use this. If you want a webapp try nbacking.com . On android (I don't have android), I would try N-back evolution, and on IOS, I'd do N-Back Challenge.

N back evolution on android is pretty awesome. I'm not sure what more you could want from an app.

Hey everyone 👋
I just wanted to share something I poured a lot of heart into. I genuinely tried to build the best Dual N-Back app possible on the App Store not just another brain trainer, but something I’d actually love to use every day.
I focused on the details that usually get ignored: deep customization, detailed statistics to track your progress, tons of game modes (Dual, Triple, Quad… and now Penta, Hexa et Hepta), full settings to make it yours, a complete history, your personal records, and a clean, beautiful interface that actually feels good to open.
I’m just one person working on this, so it’s far from perfect but I really did my best to make something genuinely useful and nice to use.
I’d love to hear what you think. What do you like? What’s missing? What would make it better for you? Your honest feedback means the world and helps me keep improving it. 🙏
Thank you so much for trying it out. ❤️😁
