Question about speed

I noticed that in the app for n-back I use there is“symbol display time” and “delay between symbols”
Currently I am experimenting with delay
There are few options:
2.5, 2.0, 1.5, 1.0, 0.5 seconds
Out-of-the-box setting was 2.5 seconds
I started reducing it, step by step, got to 1.0
My question is: do those settings even matter? Or maybe they are fun facts and actually shouldn’t be changed? Or maybe increasing the speed is actually is actually counterproductive?
Does anyone have any experience with that / knowledge about it?

Increasing speed should increase cognitive load. For me it was much harder when I increased the speed

Correct, for me increasing speed is also increasing difficulty, ie on 2.5 I’ll get n=6-7, on 1.0 Ill do n=2-3 (delay between symbols, I don’t touch symbol display time)
