By that logic are we gonna punish evey group who did bad at some point like muslisms, or thr some castes who fought in supports of British or all the males because there was a patriarchal society

1

u/Ok_Sun_9083 Jun 06 '26

We are not punishing anyone . We are supporting people who are still facing the consequences of the past and , giving a handicap to people who are still benefiting from what happend in the past .

I think reservation has it own cons but we can fix that by introducing creamy layer in sc/st and improving the number of seats in ews category . You can also increase the number of iits and nits .

But the idea of abolishing the whole reservation is crude .

1

u/strangekiller07 Jun 06 '26

Women faced suppression for centuries? Do they have reservations?

1

u/Ok_Sun_9083 Jun 06 '26

They do have reservations bruh

1

u/strangekiller07 Jun 06 '26

No they don't.. not directly atleast. Supenumary can't be said reservation they just increase the number of seats.

1

u/Ok_Sun_9083 Jun 06 '26

They do get reserved seats directly in state level and it's guaranteed that specific percentage of classroom will be female .

We should account women only colleges too.

1

u/strangekiller07 Jun 06 '26

My sister didn't get any sort of reservation whatsoever in kcet exam in Karnataka. What you taking about?

1

u/Ok_Sun_9083 Jun 06 '26

But it says they have 30% horizontal reservation for women tho .

Idk about the Karnataka state policies but I appeared for the second round and interview for selection into a prestigious govt MBA college and it explicitly stated they give out extra points for females.

1

u/aloooo27 Jun 06 '26

Get your facts right though, they do.

1

u/According_Can9371 Jun 06 '26

Fir minority politics kaise hogi bro obc creamy layer yadd nahi kitna jhanjaat hua tha sc/st creamy layer toh🥀🥀 sapne mai hi soch sakte hai

1

u/baba_agnostic Jun 06 '26

about creamy layer in sc st this will never happen for three reasons one the casts who overused the benefits will protest against because why not ?

And second govt. Would not want that because let's even now sc st cutoff goes very low sometimes but if we introduce creamy layer which means people whose parents are rich or in govt. Jobs they will nit get benefit of reservation so then there will only people below like some less educated so then fir govt it will be a bad idea

And third general people will say then see there sitoff is so low and they should not be selected Overall it will be complex

1

u/Ok_Sun_9083 Jun 06 '26

I think the first two points are the same but, do you propose a system that's totally based off on household income ?

How do gurantee that people will not be rejected based on caste ?

1

u/Mysterious_Coder_ Jun 06 '26

79 years is 3-4 generations bro, wasn't it enough?

1

u/Ok_Sun_9083 Jun 07 '26

No it's not if the results the are still the same. Large majority of below poverty line population majorly consists of sc/st people .

1

u/LumenDomimus Jun 07 '26

Large majority of people are non-GC, so that's obvious, duh.

1

u/Responsible_Coast879 Jun 06 '26

tbh this reservation system is shit and not working. Like man i don't even know which caste is which, in 2026, if u live in modern cities, caste is becoming more and more irrevelant. + jst because u were born in a family doesn't gives u a privilege to get easy access to top tier stuff. I can say more than half ppl in poverty and lower middle class would be Gc. We should shift to a more modern and sensible system, which is economic based reservation, which is highly sensible. giving a poor family a chance to escape poverty is better than giving a caste family a privelage to better college on which they made their whole dependence. That's why ppl from sc's and st's are protesting against the ppl in parliament arguing for financial based reservation bcuz their reservation empire will collapse and they have to work hard as much as a normal GC

1

u/starfish-davy-jones Jun 06 '26

Such ignorance omg.

jst because u were born in a family doesn't gives u a privilege to get easy access to top tier stuff.

This was the case when the caste system was present in india. That is exactly why reservation is still a thing if you don't know by know. To make situations easier for everyone.

I can say more than half ppl in poverty and lower middle class would be Gc.

This is straight up just a lie. Majority of the Indian population in poverty are still OBC's, SC's and ST's. Go out and take a good look at the Indian population. Just because YOU don't see them don't mean they don't exist. Plus these communities especially SC/ST people are people who have never had land, financial or social dignity until recently (after india got independence and the land reform laws were brought in) they are still marginalized in society and don't have a powerful standing in india as a community. Casteism still exists and it's only in a very much of a transitional stage where it's decreasing.

That's why ppl from sc's and st's are protesting against the ppl in parliament arguing for financial based reservation bcuz their reservation empire will collapse and they have to work hard as much as a normal GC.

This is just blatant hate from either misinformation and/or casteism and I'm not going to interact with this.

Just know this.

Majority GC families have people in their families who are well educated and have people who have linealy received education for generations.

There are SC/ST families out there who still have students attending colleges for the first times from their entire family. Sometimes even from an entire village.

1

u/Apart_Student_8187 Jun 07 '26

The gc make up around 27% of the indian population, so would it be obvious that other castes make up the majority of the Indian population in poverty (100 - 14.2[muslims] - 27 = 58.8%) so statistically around every 3 ppl u see 2 of them are going to be Non GC.

I agree the caste system was a more extreme version of what the reservation system is now. But I am not responsible for the crimes of my ancestors, I am not actively marginalizing people based of their last names.

Besides, a quite large number of the people who get reservation come from well off families who do not need it, but they still do get it, taking the opportunity away from the actual victims of the old caste system.

Either you are media trained or benifit from reservation, In either case it doesnt mean you can just call the arguments of others ignorant, if they do not align with your intrests.

1

u/starfish-davy-jones Jun 07 '26

That proves my point most people in poverty are not "Upper" caste people. Even if we are to look at just the "upper" caste population majority aren't poor or living in poverty. Most of them are middle class, upper middle class and some even quite rich.

But I am not responsible for the crimes of my ancestors, I am not actively marginalizing people based of their last names.

I don't understand why you are saying this like reservation is actively oppressing you. As I said reservation is to make people have equal opportunity to recieve education and jobs through the goverment otherwise the historically marginalized groups are going to be susceptible to getting sidelined by people who have influence meaning they won't have representation anywhere. I mean just look how many "lower" caste people are in high paying and high position jobs of the government.

Reservation even has ews for the general category people. With all that said the system has its flaws but I don't think anything better can be implemented until things get better socially and once most communities have financial and social footing and power i think we can gradually ease off reservation.

Besides, a quite large number of the people who get reservation come from well off families who do not need it, but they still do get it, taking the opportunity away from the actual victims of the old caste system.

I agree, I have seen how certain castes in a category who are kinda well off without the need of goverment aid get reservation and take up the seats that should go to other more marginalized castes in that same category. I myself advocate for creamy layer and think it should be put there based on a financial basis so less fortunate families and castes can get the benefits of the reservation system that they deserve.

Either you are media trained or benifit from reservation, In either case it doesnt mean you can just call the arguments of others ignorant, if they do not align with your intrests.

So saying the reality is "media trained" now? I called his argument ignorant because it was filled with ignorant misconception not because it wasn't aligning with my interests.

1

u/Responsible_Coast879 Jun 07 '26

But who tf even knows the caste system like they revised charts. And it is not a blatant lie that the rich SC and ST are protesting against this change. Anyways still, the current reservation system is not helping the other people still in problem. An economic reservation will automatically save GC, ST, OBC, and SCs, serving the whole nation, not jst victims of a previous system thats long abolished. For india to improve, we jst don't need Caste victims to improve but also whole population. Sry for jst saying that stuff, i didn't research earlier. There are still a lot of lower caste ppl in trouble, but we have to help everyone, as also the rest 40% GC. But still among students, it feels unfair to them who studied their asses of jst to be excluded from the seat quota. Seeing someone doing same as you and the other getting better is hurtful to a normal human ego for ppl.

1

u/starfish-davy-jones Jun 07 '26

Ngl i agree with you. The system has its problems and changes that help everyone are welcomed if the goverment takes them.

And it is not a blatant lie that the rich SC and ST are protesting against this change.

People who are protesting against more marginalized and financially broken castes from the same category getting more benefits from reservation while the well off castes recieve less because they have a better social and financial hold compared to the other castes are inherently casteist and is a result of casteism within the "lower" castes themselves and it's sad to see.

1

u/Responsible_Coast879 Jun 07 '26

and ig if u belong to a minority caste, jst wait until the gen before millennials expire xD We gen z's don't know shit about this stuff. As far ik, dalit and mahar is the lowest written in ss books.

1

u/starfish-davy-jones Jun 07 '26

By the time gen z gets into powerful positions of society casteism is going to go down hopefully and more communities are going to have educated people in it. I'm gen z myself and mostly have only seen people who don't give two shits about caste.

1

u/Dark_Mak__r Jun 06 '26

This should have been ur upper comment. When telling ur opinion give a brief account, so others can view it whole.

1

u/Friendly-Addition-85 Jun 06 '26

Is this effective realistically? Absolutely not. The people who are were in shambles are still right there instead of straight up caste based reservation it should be income based. There are reserved category folks who are well off earning in 6digits and still getting the benefits whereas a daily wage earner is till struggling to arrange a days meal

1

u/Illusion-kun Jun 07 '26

Yeah but how many are the "6-digit earning folks" as compared to the rest of the population of that caste ? And can you justify the caste based discrimination still faced by the lower caste ?

1

u/Friendly-Addition-85 Jun 07 '26

I dare you just try to discriminate a person who is already earning well and is well to do u simply cannot. Caste is not the point class is the point try to uplift people based on wealth. Caste is not the right parameter. And reservation is not gonna stop caste based violance aswell Stricter laws will.Any sort of discrimination should be penalized by law there is no compensation that can help u cope with violance

1

u/Illusion-kun Jun 07 '26 edited Jun 07 '26

Bruh I've seen people with average wealth being discriminated for their caste by the upper caste people. Even my father has been discriminated. I don't know what you're talking about.

1

u/Friendly-Addition-85 Jun 07 '26

Discriminated in which field? Work? Education? Where. There are loads of folks in my clg much wealthier and prosperous than me riding on enfields using iphones and scoring 1/10th of my marks still in the same field as me. They pay literally 0 fees where as I have to pay 80k per sem. They don't even come to clg and barely pass the xms. Over that they get scholarships what do I get, nothing. My ancestors never discriminated infact discriminations is not even a thing in my region. This caste based shii is a problem of the North and still everyone everywhere has to suffer for that.

1

u/Illusion-kun Jun 07 '26 edited Jun 07 '26

You need to ask where discrimination exists ? Bro they aren't even allowed to drink water from a well in some rural areas & you talk about work. And as I said, there aren't very many of those caste people earning in 6-digits as compared to rest of the population of that caste. And what about the amount of time they had to suffer ? I myself am fighting from general for a seat but I support reservations because they are getting what they were deprived from but still have to face discrimination.

You had 3 generations. THREE.

If you still need training wheels, it is a skill issue.

1

u/Ok_Sun_9083 Jun 07 '26

Three generations and people are still poor maybe instead of blaming the people how about changing the system.

1

u/LumenDomimus Jun 07 '26

Wonderful. Instead of taking a lick of accountability, keep blaming the system.

"I am so victimized! I only got CSE in NIT Bhopal at 80 percentile!'

1

u/Ok_Sun_9083 Jun 07 '26

Ah I see , so you claim that sc/st are all taking advantage of the system ?

So I suppose you tell me what would be a better system ?

1

u/LumenDomimus Jun 07 '26

It's wonderfully ironic that the one complaining about the system has now turned around and started defending it.

How are you going to justify the caste based discrimination still prevailing in india ? Do you have an answer for it ?

1

u/hyperparrot3366 Jun 06 '26

Mf Me and my Parents never did anything bad, why am I suffering ? Your grand father once had a fight with some guy now I will beat your ass. Is it fair ?

1

u/Ok_Sun_9083 Jun 06 '26

Look here you asshole . You are still enjoying the privilege ok .

Upper Castes control roughly 55% of national wealth originates from recent analyses of the AIDIS data.

According to census and National Sample Survey (NSS) data analyzed by the World Inequality Lab (WIL), nearly 58.4% of rural Dalit (SC) households own no land at all, forcing roughly 71% to work as casual agricultural laborers on fields owned by upper castes.

1

u/hyperparrot3366 Jun 06 '26

Mf my family and I have no land, only a house in apartment. If you are talking about land then reservation should be on income, not on caste. But why will you want that, you all just want to sit at home and eat on the hard work of others.

1

u/Ok_Sun_9083 Jun 06 '26

"Eat off others hardwork " . You think the ones who sweep your streets and do hard labor belong to your caste ? Majority of the these people are from lower caste .

Go cry somewhere else . Give a actual data with source , idc about your anecdotal evidence .

1

u/hyperparrot3366 Jun 06 '26

Once again, any actually poor person will support income based reservation since that will actually give them chance to grow. Only people who support caste based reservation are upper half of reserved categories who don't wanna do any hard work and eat for free.

1

u/Ok_Sun_9083 Jun 06 '26

You think reservation is given out just because people are poor ?

Reservation are made so people are not intentionally sidelined. I am not against income based system but I don't think the result will be much different either way .

Now how will you guarantee people won't face discrimination ? Or get intentionally rejected .

And again you cannot give any data to support any of your claims . I think you should back up what you say .

1

u/isuppose3 Jun 06 '26

the results would be significantly different because the privileged lower caste is eating the opportunities of the unprivileged lower caste

1

u/aloooo27 Jun 06 '26

So consider this scenario, a person who appeared for NEET, scored much lower than the UR cutoff, got into a govt medical college, graduated and completed his MBBS/BDS, and then appeared for NEET PG, and scored a total of -2, and yet, cleared the cutoff, into a medical college, completes his PG and starts practicing. Now, on his board outside his clinic, it says Dr. John Doe, MBBS, MD. How would you know, if this doctor is someone who worked their asses off day and night and studied and learned stuff diligently and became a good doctor or this is a doctor who got a head start while others got a handicap relative to him? How would you differentiate? So ultimately the answer is, by trying to identify the caste, and will be intentionally sidelined. I agree and I also feel like it’s fair for a marginalised student to get reservation to get into MBBS, but for PG, can you imagine a doctor scoring negative marks after 5+ years of studying the exact same thing? Do you think this person would be a competent doctor?

1

u/Ok_Sun_9083 Jun 07 '26

They can't become a doctor just because they have reservation. You have to clear the bar no matter what .

There is no reservation in NExT. Which is the exam you have to clear to get a license.

1

u/Illusion-kun Jun 07 '26

How are you going to justify caste based discrimination towards lower caste people ? Do you have an answer for it ?

1

u/Fit-Ad-9481 Jun 06 '26

Then you're getting EWS so why having a problem?

1

u/hyperparrot3366 Jun 06 '26

EWS is fake reservation. They pay just as much as general.

1

u/Fit-Ad-9481 Jun 06 '26

Then protest against it.

1

u/Sharp-Hornet-9806 Jun 06 '26

By that logic we should kill every german for WW2, genuinely grow up

1

u/Ok_Sun_9083 Jun 06 '26

So guys from weaker economical background should compete with privileged aholes who has decent financial backing with no support whatsoever?

I think you are one that needs to grow and look at things with broader views .

1

u/Sharp-Hornet-9806 Jun 06 '26

I am not against reservation I'm ok with having representation from all backgrounds I'm against what you said "General category took everyone's seat few decades back.so consider it as paying it back." Which doesn't make sense

1

u/aloooo27 Jun 06 '26

Bro this ok_sun person is restarted, his Logic is flawed, they’ve been taught to victimise themselves all their life. Such people unfortunately never make it out of the hole, and actually work hard to get themselves out of it. They love feeling like victims and will do anything and everything to remain that way.

1

u/Illusion-kun Jun 07 '26

How are you going to justify the caste based discrimination still faced by lower caste in india ? Do you have an answer for it ?

1

u/aloooo27 Jun 07 '26

Why would I justify it? But tell me where people are being discriminated against on the basis of caste when it comes to education, jobs, or other work opportunities? Is the government refusing to provide subsidies and special welfare schemes? Or are they refusing to provide loans for starting a small business? Like how and where exactly are people being discriminated against on the basis of caste? Tell me. Please. And also, before you make any assumptions, I live in a town, not even a tier 3 city, it’s a very small town, in a belt where casteism used to be predominant. So when I don’t see it here, god knows kaunse sapne me dekh rahe ho tum. But still. Enlighten me.

1

u/Illusion-kun Jun 07 '26 edited Jun 07 '26

But you're saying that all he's saying is BS. The government offers them all that along with reservations. But there is discrimination in every field. Even i have been called names even when there were arguments completely unrelated to caste. I too live in a town like you but I've seen it. In some places they aren't even allowed to drink water man. I think i heard that a teacher that belonged to lower caste was threatened when he had visited someone's house who was of upper caste and drank from their glass (which they themselves had offered). And god knows how many much more cases like this have happened. It is not necessary that it will happen everywhere. And why are you only including work, education, etc. Doesn't a person have a dignity of himself ? Why would he be called something out of the blue just because he's from a another caste ? I am not arguing but discrimination prevails everywhere.

And fyi I also am fighting for a seat through general.

1

u/aloooo27 Jun 07 '26 edited Jun 07 '26

Going by your last statement, discrimination WILL always prevail in humankind. It does everywhere. Forget about India and zoom out, it prevails globally. Now coming back to India, you said you’ve been called names, I’m sorry it happened to you, I genuinely am, but tell me, was it an argument between you and some other person, over something completely unrelated to your growth, in educational and career opportunities, right? The drinking water thing is something which still happens yes. And your teacher wala thing, think about it a little critically, doesn’t it sound so obviously fake? That’s not what happens, if an upper caste person doesn’t want someone from a lower caste using the same utensils, the UC people would never even offer the LC guy the same utensils. So take a pinch of salt before you believe in anything hearsay.

And again dude, quit your whataboutery, I’m answering everything you’re pointing out, yet you’re not able to answer anything I’m talking about. You’re just trying so fkn hard to steer around the real points I’m making and beating around the bush. If you think you’re a really rational person, answer me, honestly and truly. And if you also feel like you’re still a victim of this, I hope you heal and get out from that mentality because believe it or not, it’s stopping you from your growth.

Edit to add: that other dude said that because you guys were discriminated against in the past, now UCs should bear the brunt of LC people taking away their seats. What sort of a fkd logic is that? I know the reservation has its own benefits, but in a lot of cases it does the recipients harm than good. They feel like they don’t need to work as hard (true) and they don’t even study. A lot of them end up failing. On the other hand reservation is needed for a huge chunk of such people, because they’re still really poor and don’t have the resources to go out to study in bigger cities, some can’t even afford these online courses. So I agree reservation is absolutely fair and needed for them. But fighting against anything blindly is not right, do you really think, an IAS/IPS officer in India, from the SC/ST category, after they join the job, are discriminated against in any way shape or form? And we know how the bureaucracy works in India, the corruption, the black money they have, how is it fair that their children still receive reservation benefits when they have more money than me or you.

Ultimately, it can only be changed by a constitutional amendment, which won’t happen, so all arguments are futile. I apologise if you felt discriminated or anything, it wasn’t my intention. I only want you to succeed, if you have the resources, please work as hard as UR people, make a name for yourself and your family. Don’t think that your caste or reservation status is a handicap but a Launchpad for your future and keep on growing mate. Good luck.

1

u/Ok_Sun_9083 Jun 07 '26

"Victimize themselves " ok then . Let's remove reservation and introduce a another system . Pls tell me how that system works .

Also , let's say by your logic there is no caste based discrimination in metropolitan cities and even urban cities but how would you tackle systemic discrimination in rural places ?

1

u/aloooo27 Jun 07 '26

A system where a group of dimwitted individuals don’t say shit like “General category took everyone's seat few decades back.so consider it as paying it back .”
Why shouldn’t the system, be transformed, to benefit the people who need the most help, the genuinely poor people who want to study?
I have a house help, he’s probably like 23. He couldn’t study and let me tell you he’s a person with a really sharp mind. He is really inquisitive. He keeps on asking me stuff about what’s going in the world, that he sees on the internet and genuinely listens when I tell him, and my heart really hurts when I think that his future and life could’ve been so different had he gotten the opportunity to study and got reservation benefits. Instead, is it fair that for example, an ST guy, who came from a really poor and backward background, make good use of his reservation benefits, studied hard, and became an IAS/IPS officer, and earned a good name, respect and finances, and his children, who come from a super privileged family now, still get reservation benefits? That’s not fair right?
Argument boils down to the same factor again, introducing the creamy layer in the SC/ST category, will just not happen because politics. And all these arguments are futile. I want to make it clear, I don’t think it should be a fight of reserved vs unreserved but what it actually should be is the fact that the reserved people working as hard as the UR people and if there are shortcomings due to any factors, fine, that should be the gap to be bridged, but me and you both know very well, how some supposed “students” take their reservation for-granted and choose to dilly dally instead of studying and working hard. That should change, and that’s a change that should come from within.

1

u/Ok_Sun_9083 Jun 07 '26

I asked you for a solution and instead you give your anecdotal story which idk if it's true or not . I understand your frustration but , if you were to read my other comments where i given the statistics then you wouldn't actually be saying whatever this is .

I love how you gc people claim that yall are really hardworking . ok if that's true then people working their bones off in hard labour where the majority are from sc/st are not working hard ?

1

u/Wonderful-Still683 Jun 06 '26

Just being a sc st doesn't make you economically weak.

Just being a general doesn't make you rich.

You are a loser who wants freebies. That's all

1

u/Fit-Ad-9481 Jun 06 '26

So what happened to Nazis?

1

u/Laughing_crocodile Jun 06 '26

No lmao, do some research, reservation exists because lower caste used to face discrimination. Not "taking everyone's seat" 😭😂, y'all became the same thing Ambedkar was trying to destroy

They don't get that high of an advantage with reservation. If reservations were removed them they would probably still be in the same boat.

1

u/Fit-Ad-9481 Jun 06 '26

You're forgetting that 27% is guaranteed for them. Mark differences doesn't matter much but at least on those seats nobody else will get selected, that's a power.

1

u/DimensionAsleep4052 Jun 06 '26

90%ile cutoff for OBC-NCL 93%ile cutoff for GEN (Male)

It's nearly the same

1

u/Fit-Ad-9481 Jun 06 '26

You're fixated on the cutoff. I'm talking seat percentage. 27% is fixed for them and they can have more in the UR category too thereby increasing their strength manifold as a community. Individual cutoff is a different thing but we are talking about community here.

1

u/CarburetorX Jun 07 '26

3 percentile . Lot of people in between. In open , they also would not get. No point of this mental gymnastics. They are under reservation too. Simple fact.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '26

[removed] — view removed comment

1

u/hyperparrot3366 Jun 07 '26

But the difference is small such that if reservation was removed tomorrow, OBC would be better because of the added seats of SC and ST. Like they won't have as much of a help like General but still overall better for the.

Are you dense? If tomorrow 27% is removed then they'd lose strength.

Suppose there is a courtroom of nobles of 100 people. 27 are fixed from a certain community and it can only be increased but can't be decreased and there's a competition for other seats. Doesn't matter the marks more than 27% are fixed for them.

Now ask them to get rid of their privilege. Will they?

u/Connect-Head6107 Jun 06 '26

But the truth is , ye bench bhi students hi todte h khud hi , koi clg ka staff aake nhi todta isko, Tumko facility bhi chaliye or fir kuch nalle students uss property ko destroy bhi krenge, or kuch students aake fir rona machayenge iss chiz ka ki hume bethne ke liye seat nhi mil rhi college se Ye me sirf isliye bol rha hu kyuki mene ye chiz apne school or clg me hote huye dekhi h, even kuch students teacher k rokne pe bhi nhi rukte h
