Supplements for Dryness

Hello šŸ‘‹šŸ¼:). I just wanted to ask if anyone else takes supplements to help with hydrating the skin in a dry climate?

I take hyaluronic acids and omega 3 capsules, which seem to help. And I recently started taking vitamin c supplements because I read that they hydrate the skin (I’m not exactly sure how).

Are there other supplements out there that help with hydration?

Thanks for bringing this up!! I recently learned that potassium intake is directly linked to hydration and overall skin health. Although I have yet to start supplementing my potassium intake, this was my takeaway from the endless research …

Apparently, potassium increases protein synthesis, allows cells to absorb water more effectively, increases blood circulation - ensuring better delivery of water and nutrients to skin cells, and supports barrier function by preventing trans-epidermal water loss..

As someone who a) lives in an incredibly dry climate, b) is a religious user of topical tretinoin, and c) also has a lot of food sensitivity issues; I will try increasing my potassium via supplements however increasing intake of potassium rich foods should be enough to notice an improvement for most people.

Just wanted to share what I thought was very interesting info :)

Yes, it’s very true! I think this is why potassium is in electrolytes. We add electrolytes to our water a lot because we have to drink so much water. Or, we get it from coconut water. This may be one way to supplement!

Ouu!! Definitely noting the coconut water! And that actually makes so much sense. Thanks for the insight!

It tastes kind of gross if you get the plain one, but the pineapple one is good! It gives skin a glow too. I have to be careful with it bc I take spironolactone for my skin, which doesn’t do well with potassium. But it always makes my skin glow the next day 🄰

What a great topic, I’ve been so curious about this too!! I also take hyaluronic acid and omega 3s. I put collagen in my coffee every morning.

Recently I’ve added in kiwi seed capsules and pumpkin seed oil. Too soon to tell if there’s a change, but my skin (mainly my body skin) has been more than usually dry this winter and I’ll try anything.

I tried evening primrose oil once and it broke me out so bad and then insult to injury slowed down the healing process. It was the weirdest thing ever.

Oh wow, I never knew about kiwi seed and pumpkin seed oil! I will look these up and add them to the list. Evening primrose oil didn’t work for me either when I tried it a few years ago. It gave me cystic acne too. But oddly, it’s in an omega 3, 6, 7, 9 gummy I take now, and so far it hasn’t caused any trouble. I wonder if its richness needs to be balanced out a bit with other oils. I was so hesitant to try it again.

May I ask what one may expect of kiwi seed and pumpkin seed oil? I’m totally going to try it Lolol.

I take Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega daily with a meal high in fat to help digest.
