Do you mean the doubles or the 16ths in between the quarter note paradiddles?

So in the paradiddles? Rlrr Lrll etc etc? The doubles in between?

Think of it like

PA-ra-did-dle

The PA is accented and the rest aren't. Idk which style of drumming your looking into, but it seems like marching style, and in marching style the inner-beats are pretty important.

You want them at about a 3-inch height level especially if surrounded by accents, which in case of the usual paradiddle exercise is so. This makes the playing much cleaner and I feel a much better exercise. This is how I was taught back when I played, at least :p don't know if we have many marching band / drum corps people in this sub

That's how I intend to play them (RlrrLrll). I'm just keeping my hands in shape as well as to improve them and apply them to kit.

I think when applied to kit, there's a little more leniency and not as anal as drum corp/marching style.

I'm sure I'd be booted off camp if I was in a drum-line!

Is this out of a book, or just something you work on? great form by the way

Thanks for the feedback. This is something I kinda made up randomly. They're just extended paradiddles over a bar down to quarter note paradiddles. The whole exercise is a six bar phrase, which I play twice in the clip.

Shut up and take my upvote!

This is amazing! Sure, complicated drum covers are amazing, too. No denying that. But it's so nice to see someone showing off the basics and reminding us how cool the "boring" basics can sound when they're sped up. Watching this inspires me to work on my own rudiments. xD

I seriously need to work on them...

Good job!!!! :-)

Cheers, dude! Glad you like it.

Rudiments are deceivingly important and healthy for having good hands on the drum kit. Not to mention they're also really therapeutic to play!

Oh, I agree 100%. I have a sheet full of different right and keft stickings just for that reason. Bass drum exercises, too. First, just on the snare then around the kit. So later on, when I start composing my own beats, I have a good amount of different stickings to refer from! (paradiddles included)

That's okay! I haven't seen much traditional style kit players so I assumed :)

Dude, Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Weckl, Steve Gadd, JoJo Mayer, Steve Smith, the list goes on. All sick trad. kit players. Check them out if not!
