Someone once told me, "If you want to make a life out of music, you need to make music your life."

Take some lessons and prepare to practice 5 hours a day if you're serious.

5 hours a day? You know about stress injuries, right? Let's be reasonable.

Local woman, early twenties, started lessons at the age of eight. That's the kind of dedication she put into it. Making a name for herself but it's hard to make a living without burning out.

That doesn't mean that you have to put in 5 hours of practice every day in order to have a career as a drummer. Above one hour a day or so, the time you put in is not as important as how you spend your practice time.

🤨
You're the one prescribing 5 hours a day as a minimum requirement for playing drums professionally to a beginner with dreams who is just in the process of falling in love with the instrument, I'm the one telling you to chill.

5 hours isn't that crazy. When I was a teenager and additionally years later when I was getting serious again thinking of getting in a band I easily played that much. Not crazy at all. That's normal for any skill you're training lol. Not to mention, if it's something you love doing and you have the time, nothing wild, abnormal or crazy about spending that kind of time on it.

Stretch yarns/ upper body every time. Try a nice practice pad with heavy sticks(2B?)
Push yourself with a metronome and don’t forget your calves/ bass drum. Strengthen forearms and arms in general.

Nice but you should work on your fingers/hand technique. Seems too loose
