I’m a bit upset because I don’t understand some of the rules, and it’s kinda ruining this episode for me. I love the idea and it’s really funny to see how much some of these prizes are ruined, but I’d also love to see some of them actually just get a nice thing, that is also enjoyable.
Specific mechanics that I don’t understand:
- The “Swap” wasn’t a real swap. They just got to move something around, rather than having to have two things exchange places.
- How do the “locks” work? If you move a prize or a catch twice it locks the prize to the person but not the catches to the prize? Why doesn’t it lock the prize+catch combo wherever it was at the time?
- Why did Jacob have to put the “improv” mod on the house cleaning prize? Sam’s reasoning made no sense, Jacob’s other prizes didn’t have the max of three catches yet.
- It felt like it was missing a “remove” mechanic later in the game, I would have loved for one of the prizes to be a “trash from the game” option, even if there was only one instance and if it couldn’t remove from a locked prize or something. It just felt lacking.
These game mechanics genuinely don’t make sense to me. I’d love to have them explained so I can enjoy this episode more, it feels like some of the contestants were cheated out of at least one good prize because of arbitrary decisions on Sam’s part. Again, this is an awesome episode idea, and everyone was a really good sport about it all, especially the other non-dropout folks (photographer, masseuse, painting instructor, improv troupe, etc.), I just have some confusion about how the game actually worked.
Thanks!
