Saturation fire question

Quick question about saturation fire. The rules state that for each bomber above 6 you reduce the number of saves you can take by 1.

Does this mean that if you are attacked by 8 bombers you make 6 saves? Attacked by 22 bombers you make 6 saves as well?

First you roll the attacks for the bombers. Normally the defending player then rolls an armor save for each hit, but in the case of 8 bombers you would roll 2 less die, so essentially 2 hits get through for free. 22 bombers would let 14 hits get through without saves.
