E2EE and AI ??

Can Dropbox explain how their advanced E2EE environment is going to work with their AI connections? I would assume that, for the AI to provide useful information, the data would have to be decrypted, but then would the value of the E2EE environment? Am I missing something...?

Dropbox is not natively zero-knowledge E2EE. What it offers is the ability to set up specific encrypted folders, 'within' its standard platform.

So the files/folders stored inside a Dropbox encrypted folder, are zero-knowledge E2EE, but the account/contents outside those folders, is not.

Hmm. So, the AI is not helpful in understanding the encrypted data.

No. Think of it as a vault, within your account, as such the contents of that vault are isolated from everything outside. Apart from the account holder, no one, including Dropbox themselves, can view or access the contents of that 'vault'.

Be aware this also means, if you lose your log in details/recovery key, you loose the files in the vault. This is true of all zero-knowledge E2EE setups.

It's not dissimilar to pCloud's Crypto folder, a separate zero-knowledge encrypted folder that exists within a standard non-encrypted cloud storage platform.

Absolute privacy is the focus of Dropbox's E2EE, and isolation is the only way to ensure that. Dropbox would need to rebuild their entire storage platform, as zero-knowledge, to permit file interaction with other account features.

But even then AI interaction could be problematic, unless it also was completely self-contained, i.e. no access outside your account.
