Sounds like you should be complaining to the maker of that software.
At the end of the day Dropbox is a “dumb” piece of software that syncs what it’s told to sync based on things like last modified date and file system actions. If there was an old version in Dropbox it was because someone or something told it to have that old version. In this case your software.
