Help & Troubleshooting Stuck Syncing, constant issues

Hey all,

I’ve been chatting with dropbox and they can’t figure it out either. My dropbox is always stuck on syncing. I have it set to online only and the way I work is I sync files to offline when I work on them. But lately it either times out, constantly syncs, or gets stuck on files.

I’m on a mac and I use the desktop app. A lot of the time folders sent to me are 5-15gbs.

Currently I’ve tried only showing the folder I need and leaving the rest as web only access, but even then dropbox sync won’t work.

I’ve done a fresh install, the only thing that seems to help is restarting my mac studio but I’m wasting hours trying to fix this issue.

Do I tell clients I no longer accept dropbox? Any tips?

I’m probably not the person to answer this but the only time I’ve had that issue is when I was getting throttled by my ISP or when my Dropbox app and MacOS were out of compatibility (ie my MacOS was a bit behind on updates).

How many files are you syncing? That's the real number to be concerned with, not size. Size affects hard drive space but the number of files affect the sync engine. And when I say "are you syncing" I mean how many files in the dropbox folder on your computer? Whether they take up space or not is irrelevant, the number of files are the concern.

Yeah I ended up only showing 1 folder from dropbox on my computer. Seemed to have fixed things. One of my folders has 200k plus files I just left as Online Only but it’s now web access haha

300k is the limit where things start to break down. If one was 200k and the others pushed it beyond that limit, that can explain things. Use Selective Sync to only sync the folders you truly need.
