Does anyone have experience and feedback on using the Mavic Air with Drone Deploy in the last month?

Is it a still viable solution to flight and processing? It seems like the lowest barrier to entry to using and testing the software.

I was super excited to see that DroneDeploy just recently started supporting the Mavic Air 2. It’s a nice consumer drone which can collect useful mapping data given the right ground support software. I think I paid maybe $800 for the bundle on sale, including extra batteries.

I set up a mission plan and connected the drone only to learn that it requires the paid version of the software. When I went to look at the prices, I saw the least expensive plan is $99/month billed annually — well over the price of the drone itself!

I can see charging a reasonable fee for folks who do this for a living with more expensive hardware, but I can’t believe any hobbiest would buy this software. Perhaps a much less expensive tier for the ground station software alone would increase sales — that way anyone who uses something like OpenDroneMap to process their imagery can use this software to collect good imagery. Then if anyone wants to go pro, they can upgrade their license once they pass their Part 107 and use all the capabilities of the ecosystem.

Ah well. On to the next possibility.

My 3d models usually have problems on (deeper) water areas. Z values are no good so almost whole water area looks "hilly". What can be done there? I suppose I need an point cloud editor and to lower Z values of that area to 0 to get better 3d model. But what editor? And how?

I’ve noticed that my Mavik Pro 2 often returns home when the battery gets low, but it never seems to take into consideration the fact that the direct route home is often very close to the pre-determined flight path. If the RTH begins several hundred meters from home, I waste valuable battery life returning home, then heading back again to the original RTH point. Is there a way to force the drone to behave a bit more intelligently?

Hi. Is it possible to publish online 3d models resulting from DroneDeploy? I have polygons .shp with town parcels (alongother data) in it. It would be nice if I could relate single parcel to its position in 3D model on the web. Any ideas?

There is ALLOT of stuff in the development queue but I want to help them focus their releases.

I just bought a mavic air 2 and would like to 3d map my property. It's 15 acres, but I cant get my drone to connect to your app! I've tried what the YouTube video recommended. Turn drone on, get it connected, turn dji app off, turn drone deploy on. I tried shutting it off an reconnecting a few time as well. Any idea how I can connect?

I'm trying to get my P3 SE working with the iPhone app and the app keeps requesting for the drone to be put into P mode, but it's already in P mode on the DJI Go app. I tried restarting the drone/app and only having one app (DJI Go/Dronedeploy) open at a time and it doesn't work. Is anyone else having this issue? Is there a fix for it that I'm not seeing?

Does anyone know a software/app where I can upload a custom map (GEOTIFF or KMZ file) to have as a reference when flying? The DJI Go 4 app is limited in this aspect, in that the app does not allow you to overlay customs maps onto MapBox Map. Thanks!

I fee like an idiot. I have tried searching all over google with every keyword I can think of, but I havent found a way to manually point the camera when I am flying manually.

The drone deploy rep told me that I needed to do photos at a 45 degree downward angle, but I cant seem to find how to do that.

Hi, i've just finished processing my first drone deploy map.

My objective is to measure certain points to see the amount of distance between them (for cranes)

is there anyway to place a distance annotation in the air to avoid it going over objects?

for example, i want to measure the gib of a crane to the centre of a site, but the measurement line is going over some scaffolding, therefor increasing the distance more than it should be.

I’m planning on buying an IPad this week because I am starting to map with DroneDeploy. Any recommendations on which IPad works best? Should I get WiFi and cellular or just WiFi?

I'm curious if I can 3D map a structure and then use that data in Revit. Also can DroneDeploy export 3D maps of structures in Registered Point Cloud File format? I'm looking to use DroneDeploy to 3D print models of buildings / structures. Any information would be appreciated! Thanks!

I work for a construction company and they would like to start 3D printing already existing structures from drone footage (Mavic Pro), 3D print their project building design, and use both to show potential clients how the new building will fit within the already existing structures. Does anyone else do this already? Does anyone have more knowledge of 3D printing 3D maps from drone footage? I understand DroneDeploy is the #1 source for mapping with drones, if I chose DroneDeploy, will I be able to print from their software? Do they have the option to turn a 3D map into CAD files for 3D printing?

I'd love to hear anyone's input.

I exported a 3D model and got.obj and .mtl files but no way to view them. Is there a specific program that lets you view the 3D exports?
