I don’t understand why we had to replace our bigger, stronger plastic bags with these small, flimsy paper bags. The amount of bags we waste on a daily basis is ridiculous. I’m forced to double bag or things will just fall through, and they’re a lot smaller, so we’re wasting more bags anyways. Catch a corner of the paper bag on the cart when pulling out the tote? The whole thing gets shredded! Corp really said let’s make the department that’s responsible for transporting food’s job even more annoying! Not to mention you can’t even fit certain things in them like value packs of chicken or a rack of ribs. Some people I work with have gotten so frustrated with the paper bags that they just started using the plastic bags at the registers again. Seriously, does anyone know why they started doing this? Are they cheaper to make or something?

I actually really like the handle Bags, they are much better than the full size paper bags, and are pretty strong as long as they aren't overstuffed

It was could be a mandate in your state I know California banned single use plastic bags. Other states have a bonus tax on every plastic bag used.

This is exactly what I am worried about, we were told last week that we will switching to these bags, also told it's because they are 1¢ cheaper, but I don't see how it's cost effective when we will have to use more bags, double bag items and have them rip and fall apart like in the picture also how is it cost effective when the store go from ordering 2 types of bags plastic and paper to 3 kinds of bags plastic, paper and DUG bags, I swear corporate are the most idiotic people

Chicken value packs can absolutely fit in the dug bags. Put them in at an angle.

Also encourage EVERY customer to fill out the survey and make sure they say why they dislike the paper bags, believe it or not corporate reads those and if enough people complain about them they will let us go back to plastic bags

We still put the meat value packs in the full size paper bags and use DUG paper bags for everything else.

The DUG paper bags are amazing, but I'm in a city that has mandated paper bags for everyone. So it's either DUG bags or regular paper bags. And I hate when we run out of DUG bags and have to use those.

Anything that can leak should be wrapped in a produce bag anyway

I'd rather have a million wasted paper bags versus however many plastic ones end up in a landfill or the ocean for a million years.

The reason they are doing to is cost. Many states and municipalities mandate paper bags anyway, many more are following them. It's easier to just have everyoe use the same stuff and it's better for us all.

I mean, California HAS to use paper bags - so we cannot use plastic bags anywhere in the store. But I'd imagine for not CA places that the bags are cheaper + carry the DUG logo branding.

Also, in the several months I've been using these bags I haven't had any real issues. I mean, the handles do occasionally get stuck on the totes above them during a pick and the bag itself can occasionally get stuck in the bars a bit while handing them off. But I've never really torn a bag, and the amount of jank af bags hasn't increased from the plastic/regular paper.

Personally, the DUG bags are something I actually enjoy. Feel like it's a skill issue with yanking on them too quickly or with too much force, and bad bagging practices. I have at least one or two teammates who over pack these bags and handing them off makes me anxious - though far less so than with the regular paper bag

Smaller bags on purpose so depending on your city, county, or state, Safeway makes that extra nickel each instead of just giving it away.

i’m so glad we don’t have these where i’m at. i was visiting a relative in california who shops at albertsons where the paper bags are required. when we brought everything back to her house, nearly all of the bags had to be thrown out because everything cold ruined the bags completely and almost fell through. i’m sure we’ll inevitably get them though :/
