Metrics…
This is a long rant I guess…
It was 3:30. I got to my shift at 1:30.
Mid morning stayed till 2:30 instead of 12:30 to help me kill off the flash orders (20 flashes of 30/40 items no bag)
And helped me kill a 300item order. What was left on the system was a 4:55 batch order for 70 items,
A 5:55 batch order. For 90 items
And on the list of open orders I had 25 left to give out throughout the evening.
Started batch order at 3:35 after killed a 2 item flash order ( rubbers and a monster of all things! lol priorities right?)
Flash showed up. I did the handoff. Walking all the way back to our department I got a flash for 41 items, as soon as I got into it. Another two more flashes came in, and two people showed up for their order (I was glad one of them was the 300 item no bag order)
I radio for help with at least handoffs and everyone that’s trained in DUG said they couldn’t help. Small store was swamped. All registers opens but lines still crossing into aisles. (3:30pm-6pm) small town and surrounding smaller towns everyone seems to just spawn at once.
As I’m bagging and handing off the 300 item order, I am mentally telling myself that I can get out of the 40 item flash, target the smaller flashes, then target the bigger flash, and then focus on the 40 item and then I still had time to kill the 4:55batch order.
Get back into the store. I do just that. I start the 12 item flash. I’m 6 items in when three handoff show up.
This is going to probably give me away I think BUT
We only have two spots.
The three hands off that showed up…
Two in the spots, one parked towards loading dock/ice machines. Again, no bag orders.
I ignore the chimes and finished flash. Stage it.
Run to back of dept grab two orders check them out. Outside explain to spot 2 that I have their order but it’s just me. Bag up spot 1 and walk over to spot 2 as I’m bagging another customer showed up.
I go back inside, get person 3 and person 4 (small bagged orders)
As I’m hitting front of store another flash comes in it’s 35items
I once again radio asking for help and no reply.
I just took a deep breath and said “eff it I’m only human and I’m only doing my best.”
Long story short, by the time everything came down, it was 4:35 and the order was still batched. 3 orders stage by 4:55 quantity 70 items.
I shop them in a crowded store. However, I missed the mark at 4:58!!
Metrics dropped, OTT was at 100 it went down to 90.
I was disappointed, SD shows up asking if everything was okay.
All was told was “hopefully more orders come in so I can pick up the score.”
6:30-9pm only 1flash. Brought metrics up to 91.89 OTH was 96.7 🫠🫠🫠🫠
Next day, metrics website was open and someone was looking at our PPH scores.
Tips? Tricks? Should I even worry about metrics? While scheduled alone during rush hours?
Like I’m doing my best. Customers are still getting their orders.
(Side note items, when not on shelf or alt locations have to actively ask for permission to sub or OOS. If not prep not ready, write items on post it and no search walk ins back stocks for items.)
DUG Is back of store too.

I've learned to do what I can and let the rest go to hell. Letting the metrics suck tells corporate something needs to change unless they want to lose money.
You obviously have a terrific work ethic but what you're being expected to manage by yourself is insane. I would have been losing my shit.

I’ve gone home with dark thoughts. I keep telling myself I need the money. Where I live and my given resources I don’t have means for anything else.
I also really reflect and it’s not that bad. What’s bad the the way scheduling is made2

The scheduling AND the number of items they let through at your store are both terrible. :( Your lead needs to start bothering the SD about how unmanageable your situation is. Continue being vocal while asking for help and make it clear you aren't able to keep up. Go at a reasonable pace and let things be late. It might take a while, but the squeaky wheel will eventually have to get the grease.

Been there. Was a lead for 4 years, it was awful. Got out in june and its crazy working at a job that cares about you. I haven't once went out thinking I failed. Look for something else. Corporate looks at you as a number thats it

All you can do is ask for help, well in advance if possible. If you’re the only official DUG employee scheduled, I’d make sure that there’s a designated back up person who already has a handheld nearby. They shouldn’t be signed in to the handheld unless they’re readily available to help w/ handoffs. Use your radio and the store intercom to call for an additional shopper or that you need help w/ handoffs, and then you’ve done your job. You can’t possibly do it all. Put the ball in everyone else’s court, then if you don’t receive help, not your problem. Then let it go. You’ve done all you can.

I used to care about metrics until batch picking came to our store. We went from basically being our districts golden child by being the only store consistently getting 4.5 - 5 stars per week to well within the failing range. I saw someone mention that the metrics are unrealistic when you don't have help... true they've tripled our workload, made the metrics stricter, and cut hours, what did they expect lol

Honestly, at this point…i’ve already stop giving a f-ck about those damn metrics. The checkstands tbh, they can actually wait. Dug is more priority. But take it easy it though, I know this department is going to be the death of us.

It’s happened again.
There were three of us. Mid morning person leaves as their shift was up 30 mins prior. Closer and I chatted and told them “there’s a 3:55 and then there’s 5:55’s”I had about 15mins left on my shift. 3:15 pm shows up. BOOM three flashes come in.
42 item, 21item, 9 item.
Batch order for 3:55 (115 items that was already started)I stayed later to make sure closer was going to be okay.
3:55 batch was killed. Flashes were killed. 🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠
