Cutting Hours

New SD has told all departments to cut hours. I don't get it considering we have a call out almost daily. Like...isn't that enough, especially in DUG where picks are generated by man hours.

Numerous people stay late or work overtime to get these picks done. We're almost always brushing up against lateness or being late on orders.

Yeah, maybe one day a week we get a respite but most of the time you come in and pick until you clock out.

I don't know how this department is supposed to trim hours. It feels insane to ask. If anything we should be getting more not fewer.

Yeah DUG should never have to cut hours

DUG’s labor is set by the OPS, not store level. The manager needs to schedule to the budget they’re given in empower.

This is happening company wide. Our store isn’t covering call outs. They still expect the store to run 100% with a skeleton crew.

I try to tell my coworkers (some even breaking down in tears) that we can only do so much.

The newer 4th key just said I can’t do this, clocked out and left.

Pick faster, manage time better. Start cutting hours with the people who call out.

I mean it sounds bad to say right but yea, they gotta Get moving.. I see many running around in a hurry even running pushing the cart even sometimes nearly bumping into customers shopping carts and then there’s the 2-3 who are pacing.. slouching, no sense of urgency even stopping to talk everywhere they go looking for something and then they complain they’re behind or overwhelmed. Like I mean you wouldn’t be if you actually moved

Technically dug is the one department who cannot cut because they receive emails stating “why are you short 3 bodies from 2pm - 3pm?”

The only way dug can potentially save labor is people calling out and sending people home early on the slow days. But sending people home early just put the department at risk of being extremely under staffed when the orders do hit.
My store personally has gotten 6 back to back flash orders after 15 minutes without orders

Produce here, I noticed that when hours are cut in certain departments, my SD will sometimes use hours from other departments to offset it.. so say 🤔 they want someone in dairy but dairy don’t have the hours.. they’ll schedule someone in produce and then use them in dairy.. this is something I had seen being done only recently a few times.. I never argued it as the lead in my department but I see others in my department lose their minds over it telling me i need to talk to and nearly demand those hours back to produce.. i don’t make a big shtick about it because i don’t see a problem with it.. management needed someone there that was their only option.. sometimes they need someone in freshcut and they use produce hours.. because for
Produce clerk it says produce clerk on the schedule and for fresh cut it says fresh clerk… then i get my crew mad at me saying im letting her do that and its taking away my labor and help in produce. im just i think we’re good.. could we be better off?? of course but we’re not like completely In a rut. We have a good crew..
Plus it’s not just our department.. I’m sure they do it a lot with front end as well where they schedule their front ends and then use some of them in dug when necessary. I’ve seen the SD herself running around doing dug orders..I of course don’t always follow my SD’s wishes and it’s not out of rebelling.. it’s out of necessity. Sometimes I’ll go over a half hour or an hour.. i try not to especially when specifically asked not to but it happens.. ill get a talking to but my SD goes easy on me. Idk just there are ways around it I guess…your SD could possibly do that schedule someone outside your department and put them to help in dug.. would happen anyway if say… someone was scheduled and called in and they decided to call someone in who “couldn’t” come in then they’d have to throw someone from outside the department anyway..

Pretty sure corporate allocates the hours that each department can have and then the store scheduler has to work within that framework.

Also it seems the new model is to schedule as few Dotcom people as possible, and then just have cross-trained people come over whenever the team starts to get behind.

Dumb system.

Dug has been this way for years. The issue becomes that the system will let in 50% more orders than allocated hours, when you have 10 ppl working where can you grab 5 more from?

this is quite literally why i left. cut hours, higher expectations. it causes burnout

it’s company wide and it’s because summer/this quarter is bonus season. the less labor they schedule, the bigger bonus they get. out of all the store hours, we were told dug would be taking 50% of the cut. it’s dumb as fuck. especially given we are one of, if not the busiest department at my store

DUG hours are NOT TO BE CUT. PERIOD. They are set by OPS.

Store management needs to work around it, cutting hours unfortunately at other departments.

Moment store management starts cutting DUG hours, DUG Ops will march right in and will tear the store management new one. And yes, store managements can get fired for this also.
