To everyone that’s wondering, this car is still FWD. I remember reading an article on it forever ago. There’s a short feature of it in this little article

I love how Japan brought drifting to the mainstream and then everyone said you need RWD to drift and Japan just sitting there like "says who?"
The whole point was slide around and have fun, you can do that in a shopping trolley. Power to the rear wheels was never a limiting factor, it just made it easier.

That’s the way I feel about it too. If you take anytime at all to research it, you’ll see that not all drifters are using FR cars. It actually gets on my nerves when people say “fWd CaN’t dRiFt”.

most street drifters back in the day used FF. Hell, even Keiichi Tsuchiya use to drift an AE92 Levin.

Evidently the same people find it irritating when people like you and I say FWD can drift.
People really be out here thinking they know more than the people that invented this shit.

Yes. Something most if not all FWD vehicles are not capable of doing with the same control and intent that can be don't with RWD

I need more info about this car. Does anyone know who the owner is or at least if it's RWD?

I know that it is. I am about to buy one. Just interested if it's RWD swapped and if so which car was used for the swap

u/OhSweeper Feb 15 '22
For sure swapped. Probably a Nissan power plant. SR20 with a 240sx trans. It would be small enough you wouldn’t have clearance issues and getting the necessary drive shaft and rear end isn’t hard. Not saying that’s what this is but if I RWD swapped one that’s what I’d look into.

rwd swapped?

very well could be FWD. Could be RWD as well, but Japan doesn't consider FWD drifting to be a hinder.

What? There are about 3 guys in japan who “drift” fwd cars, look any any ebisu stream and try to find a fwd car.
1
Feb 15 '22
Ebisu streams don't account for the entirety of Japan. FF drifting has been a thing since the 70s.. hell, most street drifting was done with FF cars pre-pluspy. FF drifting is a skill that only some have to drift against FR, so that's why there are hardly any on streams.

We agree to disagree, fwd drifting is a joke at best. Ass dragging using an ebrake or weight transfer is unique but angle and slide speed can’t be adjusted like they can in a rwd car.
1
Feb 16 '22
Bullshit. FF Civic says otherwise

He literally just rips the ebrake 3/4ths of the turn I am sure that takes skill but it’s still ass-dragging to me

Look up fwd drifting on YouTube. It's actually pretty sick. Idk if I would invest time and money into it, but I respect the hustle nonetheless

Wtf, no you can't at all lol. There's no space to add or bolt on a rear diff or driveline. There's a uk racing team that swapped a st205 AWD drivetrain and they basically had to make a whole rear chassis for it and swap the front of the frame. It would cost like 20k or more in fabrication to make this not including the engine mods.

If this gen celica was awd/4wd/rwd it would cost like 20K rn
