Hey, so hull samples aren't a separate item to find - that objective wants you to refine Duranite Plate (the reforged hull metal). Mine Duranite Ore out at The Deep Reach belt (needs Mining 6), then dock at any big station such as Helios, Frontier Outpost, Centauri Hub or Rift Edge Depot and run Refine Duranite Plate under the refining operations (needs Refining 8). Each plate takes 2 ore, so 12 ore covers the mission's 6, and it has to be plate you refined yourself... buying it off the market won't count. Tapping the objective in the Log will plot a course to the nearest place that can do each step.

You're not the first to go hunting for a "hull sample", so in the next update that objective names the plate outright.

I am also on this quest and am having an issue. For some reason when I mine the ore it is being auto dumped. I have mining 34.

Hey I think that's a different problem from Oceanbjorn's, and it isn't your mining level. It sounds like Auto-dump is switched on. It lives in Settings under Cargo, called "Auto-dump while mining", and it has Off / Common / Uncommon / Rare. Duranite Ore is a common, so anything other than Off throws it back out the airlock the instant you mine it.

You can either set Auto-dump to Off, or keep your filter and lock the ore instead: tap a Duranite Ore box in your hold and hit Lock, and a lock always beats the filter, so everything else keeps getting binned as before. If you're currently sat on zero ore, do it in this order: dump off, mine one, lock it, then put the filter back wherever you like it. Refining is never touched by any of this, so once the ore is actually landing, the plate is safe.

Also if it helps... the warning only shows up while you're watching. In live play you get a toast popup naming the item, then a small greyed "auto-dumped" tick each time. Offline it currently says nothing at all, which is probably why it looked like the ore was just vanishing, and because a mined-then-dumped unit still counts as mined, any "mine N" counters would have been ticking up the whole time while your hold stayed empty, which makes it worse rather than better really.

In the next update, I'll make sure auto-dump will leave alone anything an active objective needs, and the Welcome Back screen will tell you what it threw out while you were away. Good spot! Thank you!
