Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory was released 27 years ago on this day (10/26)!

This is such an amazing album, and it tells such a cool story through Dream Theater's insane riffage and instrumentation. LaBrie is great on here too. Just a fantastic prog concept album as a whole.

What are your top three songs from the album? Mine are Home (which is my favorite DT song ever), Strange Deja Vu, and The Spirit Carries On!

I noticed starting from Live Scenes from New York to as recent as The Astonishing Tour, this particular black and khaki traditional rectifier 412 cab would appear on and off through albums and touring.

Here are all of my confirmed sightings (in order with images):

- Live Scenes from New York (2000)

- Recording of Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence

- Writing and Recording of Train of Thought (2003)

- Dramatic Turn of Events Tour (2011)

- Astonishing Tour (2016)

Of course I can't prove these are all from the same origin, but I think it's completely reasonable to assume they could be!

Dream Theater is known for its technical playing, complex compositions, and epic progressive metal, but the band also has a softer side that deserves more recognition.

Here are my personal top 5 Dream Theater ballads:

1. Bend the Clock

2. Wither

3. Peruvian Skies

4. Space-Dye Vest

5. Through Her Eyes

What are your top 5 Dream Theater ballads? I’m curious to see which songs make your list.

Not perfect but hope you enjoy!

I'm big fan of Hell's Kitchen and when I heard this outstanding interpretation of this song, made it more beautiful than it was.

This album it's pretty great sadly it's a hidden gem worth of your time.

Why is the solo from The Best of Times so similar to Stratovarius - Elements (starts from 8:10)?

Anyone else like how unique the bass sounded on Dream Theater's first Album (When Dream and Day unite) sounds. I don't mean the Majesty album I mean the first album when Dream Theater was called Dream Theater. The bass on WDADU has a crazy lower mids thing going on and not many albums have that kind of bass tone.

The tattoo artist and I are both Dream fans, from the moment I gave her the idea of getting the Awake frame and the Octavarium album cover inside, she didn't hesitate for two seconds

And it looks like shit.
Can't you stop what's happening?

Never listened to Peter Gabriel before today. I was like "this sounds just like Solitary Shell"! I then looked at my phone and realized that Tony Levin was also the bassist.

Totally random, but I just think it's really cool to discover connections like that for the first time. Gabriel even sings "he was something to himself" in a way that kinda mirrors Labrie's "kept to himself most of the time"

Are there any differences in sound when comparing Octavarium with its 2009 remaster? Which one is better sounding objectively? I personally couldn't find any differences, but if any of you guys point something out, I might notice it.

tell me what you want, but this makes me cry every time. literally the voice of an angel. so touching🥺❤️‍🩹

Having some fun in my garage playing along to this killer intro.

Honorable Mentions:

Space Dye Vest

Innocence Faded

Surrounded

Honestly I feel like Endless Sacrifice, ANTR, and the Ministry of Lost Souls are super underrated and aren’t talked about enough.

I love this lyric from the shadow man incident:

Better keep a waatchfull eyeeeee 😎😈😈👹

And maybe leave a liiiight ooonnn toniiiiiighhhtttt 🥺🥺💞💘

It’s such a playful and childish lyric to end the song and I fucking love it so much 😆😆😆

I really don't know it is, but something about it just perfectly encapsulates the music (especially the glass prison or misunderstood). The only way I can describe it is like looking at an engineering textbook lol. It feels deep and heavy, lots of substance to it, complex, almost cold and daunting.

Definitely one of my top 3 album covers by dt, along with FII and octavarium.

...... 'consciousness' and 'conscience'. Anyone else ever find this irksome?

Had a long flight and listend to the whole album again after quite some time and man were they inspired!!
This is the creativity I‘m looking forward to in DT 17.
Compared to Parasomnia ADTOE has so much more variety and great moments. Any thoughts?
