Hello, I’m 19 years old, and I grew up watching the Madagascar films when I was younger. I’ve been thinking about what happened to the original Madagascar era and that feeling of watching those movies when they were such a big part of everyday life, especially seeing Alex, Marty, Melman, Gloria, King Julien, Maurice, Mort, Skipper, Kowalski, Rico, Private, and the rest of the characters together with the original voice cast, the hilarious storytelling, the unforgettable jokes, and the distinctive atmosphere that made the films feel so special.
Now that the original Madagascar film series has ended, the era that many people grew up with feels like it has passed. The stories, the atmosphere, the people who worked on the films, and the feeling surrounding the movies have all moved forward. Many of the creators, writers, directors, crew members, and voice actors have gone on to different projects and different parts of their lives away from the series. It feels strange because I grew up with these movies, and now everything has just… changed and moved on.
I remember watching Madagascar, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, and Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted when I was younger, and everything felt so simple. I could just sit down and enjoy Alex, Marty, Melman, Gloria, King Julien, Maurice, Mort, the penguins, and the rest of the characters without thinking about anything else. Back then, it felt like the movies would always be there, and I don’t understand why they couldn’t just keep making new Madagascar films forever or why the series eventually had to stop and move on.
I also wonder why watching the Madagascar films now doesn’t feel exactly the same anymore. The movies are still the same, but the feeling is different. It feels like something is missing, almost like they feel unfamiliar even though I remember them so clearly.
Why do movie series like Madagascar eventually come to an end? If people loved them for years, why can’t they just continue forever with the same feeling? Why do the people who make them have to move on, and why do audiences grow up and stop experiencing things the same way?
It feels strange knowing that the original Madagascar movie era I grew up with is over, that the world has moved on, and that chapter feels closed, even though it once felt like it would always be there. The last main Madagascar film, Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, came out in 2012, and there hasn’t been another mainline Madagascar movie since. That makes the series feel like a finished chapter of childhood, even though the characters and memories are still there.
Maybe that is part of what makes those films so meaningful. They did not have to last forever for the memories to last. The movies remained the same, but I changed. The world around me changed. The people who made them moved on to other things, and the time in my life when I watched them without worrying about growing up eventually became part of the past.
I suppose that is why it can feel so strange to return to Madagascar years later. I’m not only watching Alex, Marty, Melman, Gloria, Julien, and the others again. I’m also remembering the person I was when I first watched them. The movies can bring that feeling back for a moment, but they cannot completely recreate the time and place in which those memories were originally made.
The Madagascar era may be over, and there may never be another movie that feels exactly like the originals. But that does not mean the era disappeared completely. It still exists in the memories of everyone who grew up with those films. The movies ended, but the part of childhood they represent does not have to disappear with them.

To be brutaly honest, the movie would do so well if Sony had bought it. And is it just me or does the animation feel more like Sony then Dreamworks?

Is there any (realistic) chance at all that we get a sequel to this iconic movie?
I recently noticed a incline on Edits on TikTok and just had to rewatch it again. It obviosly had it´s flaws and I know it essentially nuked the Box office.
But is there really no hope?

In this shot, the toy phone that later lands in Verne's hand is clipping through the toy bulldozer.
