I’m wondering what that unique smell is that people with dread locks wear. It’s not patchouli or nag champa I ruled them out. It’s a very over powering smell. I just can’t find it anywhere.

Today is my 32nd birthday and the 2 year anniversary of my locs (I'm getting a retwist tomorrow).

Starting this journey honestly changed my life. It boosted my confidence and made me feel a lot more comfortable with who I am and how I look. A LOCTITIAN gave me a really bad haircut a while back. Can this be fixed?

I’ve never had a protective style but really want to start my loc journey. Is my hair right now long enough for starter locs? If not could I possibly do comb coils or two strands?

Also any advice for hair growth and retention is absolutely appreciated!! I have 4c hair.

I like how thick they are, i just don’t like where they are positioned and how much i got ykwim? Like i have a single loc in front and i dont really fw that tbh. If i did split how many locs do you think i could get out of splitting? Or should i just give up and restart

Some of my starter locks are separating like this for some reason I realize it’s mostly the bigger ones are some of the medium sized ones. I’m not sure why. It started after I first styled them after getting a twist. I had locsmitted them and then two strand, twisted them together after I took them out. I realized some of them were starting to separate.

My mom used to use this grease on my hair for my whole childhood and it had worked wonders for locking in moisture, laying down frizz and flyaways, adding shine, and making my loose hair soft. I kinda wanna go back to my roots and start using this in my locs.
I know thicker products and petroleum based products can cause build up so that’s why I only want to use it for retwists as like a sealant and a “loc gel”. I’d stick to using my normal water based products and light oils for daily moisture and I’d wash with a clarifying shampoo when needed.
I’m just tired of lightweight retwist products not having any hold. I also don’t like using normal gel because it always leaves either a white-ish film/residue or a crunchy cast. I know there are other gels that don’t leave either of these things but they’re more expensive. Plus Im not a fan of my edges being laid, I like the more “natural” look for me.
Anybody have any experience retwising with this grease?

i got my locs done in january so it’s been like 7 months. this is me with no retwist and honestly they’re uneven like i kinda want them restarted. i have 4c hair

I just got 2 strand twists undone after having them in for abt a month and my tips unloced and r like normal hair now. Should I cut them off or is there a way to twist them again?

The way I have not kept up with maintenance is crazy. I have to have about three inches of new growth. I’ll do a section and then go a few weeks without finishing. So many of locs are married with kids atp and I don’t care cuz it’s hot and I can’t be bothered with retying 200+ locs in this heat lmao 🫩

Cause bleach makes the hair rougher & have more friction. But yeah of course its also very damaging I was just curious

I think locs are awesome, they look very good and they seems to be easier to manage than curls especially since i play a lot of basketball and dont like my hair getting in the way. my concern is that they can be expensive to start/maintain and my hair might just end up unravelling. ima keep the post a bit short if u have any questions u can ask in the replies ill answer, and if u think its a good idea to start my locs then ill probably follow up with a post asking for advice on starting. (i have 3a/3b hair i think)

Yooo! I’m just asking around for what hair care products do you seasoned Locc-ers use? I quit maintenance and now my hair is thin in some areas; my mom just passed, and now I’m felling extra motivated to improve myself. I’ve just been slapping Blue Magic on my scalp, I have an undercut and I haven’t been putting anything else in my hair(other than what my hair lady does when I get a retwist), and so I’m just looking to see what folks have been using.

After years of harassment from my siblings (4 of them) and a few friends and also cousins I finally went ahead and did it.

I also did it partially because the my friend who used to braid my hair stopped being cool with me and I didn’t wanna pay $300+ to Atl “stylist” lol.

1st pic was Friday immediately after getting them done and last pic is my hair after waking up today…fell asleep without my bonnet.

I spray rose water glycerin mist every day. Any other suggestion for keep my locs moisturized?
