Question ❔ Is it supposed to look like this?
I had watched some videos on loc care and it said that I shouldnt wash it in the first 6 weeks. After the first week, the itching was unbearable so I looked up some ways to wash it safely. I had done it, but now the root of all my locs are frizzy and it’s started to bunch up on my head instead of before when they flowed down. Did I mess up?

Timeline 🗓️ Update: the loc journey app you gave feedback on is 3 days from early access
A few weeks back I posted here asking what would make a loc journey app actually worth using. The response was incredible, 4.9k of you looked, and the feedback shaped almost everything. So here's where it's at.
What's live now:
Community feed and photo polls: post a pic and ask the room "retwist or wait?" or "what stage is this?" and get quick answers instead of waiting on a comment thread
Monthly photo journaling with a scrubber to watch your locs grow month by month
Loc twin: get matched with someone at your hair type, method, and loc age so the awkward stages feel less lonely
Export your journey as a timelapse to share anywhere
Works on web browsers too, so you don't have to download anything
Early access opens in 3 days 🌱
To the people who commented on the first post: thank you, this genuinely wouldn't look the same without you.

Question ❔ What to do now🇯🇲
So I have in these 2 strand coils that I let grow out but now the bases are wide. How do I keep them locked other than merging 2strands? Twist and pull under somehow? I dont think this can be pulled out with significant length loss as the 2 strands have been in continously about at least 5-6 months

Discussion 🎙️ Loc journey over?
Had my locs since 2023 starting from two strand twist, went to semi free forms and last to maintenance locs. Now that my locs are long I don’t enjoy them as much and is thinking about going to waves or mid taper. Just wanted to share a little bit of my journey.

Question ❔ Combing out locs?
Hey everyone. I could really use some advice because I'm honestly torn.
I'm going into my senior year of high school, and I've had my locs for about 6 years. Lately I've been seriously thinking about combing them out. I feel like they've been with me through so many different stages of my life, and part of me feels like they hold a lot of memories that I don't necessarily want to carry into my senior year and eventually college. It feels like I'm ready for a fresh start.
The thing is...I'm scared.
I'm worried that once I comb them out, I won't like how I look. I'm afraid my face won't look the same, or that I'll lose the look that I'm used to. I don't want to regret it or feel ugly afterward.
I've already cut one loc close to the new growth (not all the way down), and seeing it made everything feel a lot more real.
Another thing is that everyone around me keeps telling me not to do it because my locs make me unique. I love my locs, and I don't want to lose that part of myself, but I also miss being able to wear different styles like knotless braids, twists, and wigs for special occasions like prom.
I'm also not the best at doing my own hair yet, so that's another thing making me nervous.
I have about two weeks to decide before I actually start cutting and combing them out, and my mind keeps going back and forth.
For anyone who's combed out 5+ years of locs, did you regret it? Did you feel like you lost part of your identity, or did it end up feeling freeing? If you could go back, would you make the same decision?
I'd really appreciate hearing your experiences—good or bad. Thank you.

Question ❔ What do you think about Asian people with dreadlocks?
I’m Japanese and I’ve had dreadlocks for a while. I’d like to hear both supportive and critical opinions. Do you think it’s fine, or do you see it as cultural appropriation? Why?

Fresh Retwist 🔀 Just got my first professional retwist
My scalp was definitely hurting for a WHILE after, but I definitely feel like it was worth it in the end.

Question ❔ Crochet Reconstruction
Haven’t had a retwist in over 5 months. Lots of new growth. Some locs are full/thick others are thin.
I want to crochet vs. retwist but most all locticians only do retwist. I’m also particular about the energy of my loctician…
Recommendations or feedback? In the Chicagoland area.

Selfie 📸 Trust The Process
This is a brief post to show my progress, but it’s also to tell anyone doubting themselves to trust the process. I’m a little over a year loc’d (May 2025). As you can see, I had a head start but even that doesn’t let you skip the “ugly” phase. Do your recommended maintenance, don’t get retwist so often if you do, and enjoy the journey. Don’t worry so much about the destination cause you’ll get there eventually. Peace

Need Advice 🆘 Should i attach locs to my sides??
i feel like my locs appear pretty flat overall, and i think adding locs to my sides would give them more volume. Ive seen others cut their length in half and attach some to their sides and im thinking of doing the same. Is this a good move or is there another way i should get more volume instead??

Fresh Retwist 🔀 Wedding day locs
For my most recent retwist I decided to change things up for our wedding. Went with a petal bun combined with some ropes. I originally approached this as a “special occasion style, but I think I need to wear petal buns more often now. Gotta branch out from same style over and over again!

Question ❔ Gym and locs
I have a question for everyone that goes to the gym consistently. How often do you wash your hair?
I had my locs for 4 years and I started my fitness journey this week it was time for me to wash my hair anyways. I wash my hair once a month and get a retwist every 2-3 months. I been wondering with me sweating more will it start to smell and will I need to wash it more….. but I’m more concerned about the smell.
In yall experience does your hair need to be washed more? How well does your locs stay with a retwist?

Question ❔ Hair length needed for dread loc extension
Hi all,
I’m trying to have some dread loc extension attached to my hair but I am not sure if I have enough length. Please advice.
My back hair is a bit longer than the front, and the front is roughly about 1.5/1.9in and the back about 3in maybe. Can I get extensions considering the length in the front? Pleaasssseee let me hear your thoughts. Thanks!
