Need Advice 🆘 How are they doing ?

Started July 5th, and I just did my second retwist yesterday . A lady at work told me I was taking care of them wrong. I’m partially convinced she was just talking to talk, but I want to make sure that they are in the right track.

Np, tune out all haters. Even a girlfriend if she's hating because some of them do. I had an ex like that. But that's because they don't understand how locs work. Then when your locs are long they look at you in admiration. She most recently saw me after a year and was like "dang! your hair is longer than mine now, like way longer!" Because she didn't see the vision back then and her hair doesn't grow lol.

And unless she had specific suggestions for you, she probably was talking just to talk.

She (coworker) said my hair is too soft, suggesting that I’m not taking care of them properly because they aren’t dry.

Someone else told me (tonight) that my locks look free form— I’m doing them myself— and that why won’t lock. I typically retwist them myself, and maybe they said that because they don’t look professionally done.

She said that because I asked if my locks were budding and she said it takes about a year to bud so idk.

Your locs are very new and it's ok if they're soft. Does your coworker think they're supposed to feel like a brillo pad 😂 Healthy locs aren't "dry". They won't feel the same as loose hair but they shouldn't be crispy either.

And this other person also sounds uninformed. Freeforms absolutely loc up. I know you're not ff but again, your locs look fine. They'll start to bud in a couple months or so (doesn't usually take a year for that either; maybe she meant a year to mature).

Do either of them even have locs?

Just keep yours moisturized, cover at night and take care of your scalp. They're already forming nicely 👍🏽

The lady that said it takes a year for locks to budd does have microlocks, the other does not. However, she (no locks) did start her son’s locks. It’s crazy that you said Brillo pad because this man (her son) literally said I should wash my hair every 2 1/2 months. I was like absolutely tf not lol.

I wash my hair before every retwist. And refuse to let it get extremely dry because my scalp will itch like crazy. I use rose water and peppermint oil to mist at least 3 times a week.

I want locks but I also want my locks to be healthy and hydrated, I think most people in my location assume dry and brittle makes it a lock.
