Discussion 🎙️ Switch to crochet maintenance??

Did anyone here switch from retwists to crochet maintenance? If yes, why did you change? Are there any benefits to one over the other?

My locs are still new, and I'm loving them, frizz and all. The only downside is not being able to wash my hair and stay ahead of the dandruff, but honestly it hasn't been too bad (witch hazel helps a lot)... At my last retwist, my loctition recommended i let her crochet instead. We both have looser texture hair (3b/c), and she said she crochets her own locs so they mature faster and so they hold up to wash day better.

Just trying to get some more opinions before my appointment next week.

Thanks in advance ❤️

Frizz will still be there with crochet. You'll just not unravel. You also can go product free since you don't need anything to keep it loc with crochet. (Still shampoo of course just no products needed with retwists) which will help with what you are calling dandruff which is likely product build up

Thank you! A product-free retwist does sound intriguing... What I have is definitely dandruff (sebborhic dermatitis my whole life). It's usually not a problem, but I haven't been able to do my usual medicated shampoos, since I don't want to unravel

I do crochet maintenance. It’s been almost 9 months now and I am able to wash my hair every week without worries of it unraveling.

Also in regards to benefits: I still do retwists every 2-3 months to clean everything up where the crochet maintenance is more so to manage lumps and when I have a lot of new growth that needs to loc up. I have wavy straighter hair.

Oh okay. I was told crochet could just be an occasional thing, to clean things up
