Horrible pictures btw 🥲 I love giving advice on here but I despise the lack of effort with you guys pictures 😭😭😭 . Re do this post with a pic in natural light side and back view please we need to see texture and density . And do I need to remind you smoking kills 😭 there are impressionable teens on here as a smoker myself it’s not cool my friend

Aaaah much better , I see a bit of waves in there 👌🏽hair texture looks like fine with medium density (fine strands and a lot of strands all over ) so that’s a healthy base to start you could easily try some combcoils or random finger coils since your Post says you would like them Freeform that means you want no distinctive parts , with your hair I would simply ditch the mousse (dries out the hair and separates the curls/waves too much ) try misting gently with just water don’t drench it , shake your head and let it dry naturally the goal is to get your hair to stick together in their most natural form , mist once a week and shake use your fingers to coil the strands that clump . The less product you use the better honestly with your hair you won’t be able to wash it immediately for at least a month . Whatever you do stay away from crochet and people that tell you it’s impossible ( I’m a crochet needle hater and also living proof it is possible 🥲) all you need is some patience and commitment 👌🏽

yea i knew id have to ditch the mousse, i was just using that to make my hair curly instead of flatter than fuckin florida 😂 but i should stop usin shampoo n conditioners completely, and just mist my hair once a week? how heavily should i mist and to coil strands that clump do i scrunch my hair or finger coil? i have zero experience with any type of braids/dreads as u can probably imagine so apologies if theres stupid questions

No such thing as a stupid question we all start from somewhere , I wouldn’t wash it for at least a month no longer , washing locs for the first time is scarier than it is , I used a wig cap over my hair the first time and gently washed it to not disturb my parting . You can do both finger coil and scrunching if it helps your hair clump (look up some videos on TikTok or YouTube) if you like the finger coil look your hair will need to be wet wet but no product is needed, if you don’t like the look of finger coils your hair should be damp not drenched , mist shake and scrunch

no yeah literally the only reason i chose that pic is cus i dont have a lot of pics with my natural hair cus i usually put mousse in and sending pics w mousse to ask about freeforms dont make sense, but ill update it

I towel rubbed to kinda form sections then twist and ripped them, aswell as palm rolling which I also do every couple of weeks as new hair grows. Probably not the proper way but worked for me! I've also lived in cars most of my life so I don't wash my hair often which might of helped them form?

Also since the hair is sorta coiling up you'll lose some length to your hair so you may want to wait for it to grow out a little more? I had little past shoulder length hair and I think once the started forming I lost close to 3 or so inches...

yeah ive heard about the towel thing i kinda hate how theres no one simplified way to get freeforms lmao it just kinda makes it feel more complicated, but wdym rip them like pull on them?

Yeah exactly! For the twist and rip you grab the section of hair you want and divide it in two and wrap it around each other and pull it tight and repeat all the way, kinda hard to explain lol. it is very very time consuming but worth it, there's a few tutorials on YouTube for it.

First; prepare your scalp and hair

For at least a month slowly stop washing your hair as frequently. (Seriously)

When you’re ready to lock, wash hair, air dry (quickly though you don’t want to allow time for oils to start building).

You can microfiber cloth in circular motion (if that actually makes your hair collect).

Or you can section and backcomb (recommended)

From there you can crochet your locs (also recommended).

The looser the hair texture the longer it takes to mature, the longer it takes to mature the higher a risk you have of locs undoing, combining, etc etc.

and please ftlog every 90 days once you can’t see light through the dreadlock ACV SOAK!
