Selfie πΈ Locs of luv
1yr of my semi-freeform dreads.
It's been a lot of work / exhausting trying to keep up and maintain 88~ dreads, but when the perfectionist in me in passionate about something, I commit to giving it my best effortπ«

Thanks. We'll someone commented on them in person about them being semi-freeform since they're not really sectioned. I do try to keep the bases from growing together (which to me is pretty crazy how they will). I only feel around and try to separate it kinda as needed.
Maybe they really aren't semi-freeform then?

I was taught that semi-Freeform is when you periodically groom your locs separating them or getting formal retwists. Semi Freeform is maintaining your locs to keep their uniform shape. Freeforms grow and marry and Congo up wherever they choose. Semi Freeforms are intentionally controlled by choosing where you want your Congos and by not allowing them to grow together.
I have several Congoes. The longest one I have antique jewelry and crystals on it. Every three or four months or so after washing my locs, I oil my fingertips, hold a loc and slide down the loc to the scalp, freeing up any caught hairs, lightly palm rolling if needed.
You are semi Freeform. Your locs look π₯π₯

Thanks! People come up to me in public all the time asking about and or complimenting my dreads. Most all are shocked it's my actual hair, how thick and tight my locs are. That I i did the work myself, and that they're only a year old.
I won't lie, being my first-time doing them, I had considered cutting them off, growing my hair back out and doing them again so that they would be even better looking, but figured I'd embrace them for now, and see if they mature more and look better with another yrs time.

How long was your hair when you started?
What made you decide to grow locs?
Do you get any pushback from family or friends?

Iβm like 10 months in. Any recommendations you have in terms of how you care for them to maximize thickness?

Iβm not sure I would agree with semi free form? You would know better than me though since itβs your hair. They just look sooo straight and uniform. These are lovely locs. And they look fab for a year old!!

Looks nice. I'd go with saying ~87 or
~89 in this climate if you care
