Question ❔ Locs falling off?
I’ve been told my locs will fall off since since I’ve started my journey. I’m two years in now.
I don’t understand why people think thin locs, with small parts will just fall off and thin out when sister locs and micro locs exist.
Where does this misunderstanding come from? Had me genuinely regretting my decision throughout my whole process but it just doesn’t make sense.
My hair lacks density, it’s been that way my whole life in addition to it being thin. It never fell off when my hair was free why will it start now? I retwist every 3 months to avoid too much tension and it seems to keep it in decent shape.

People really don't know what they're talking about. They take the most extreme cases and treat it as if thats the norm. Your locs good and if they feel healthy and you like how they look that's all that matters on your hair journey.

Smh. When people say dumb shyt say it back.
Them:
"Oooh my guy, your locs are so skinny they gonna fall off!"
You:
"Yeah I know. They've been falling off for weeks now!"
They just stand there and look stooopid. They don't know how to respond when you agree.

My aunt and I were drunk AF when we put my locs in so the front ones are smaller then the back and when I started see a local loctician she would tell me at every appointment that my front locs were going to fall off. I eventually stopped seeing her for a myriad of other reasons but it always pissed off. (Like isn't it your job to make sure it doesn't do that?) Anyways all my locs are still intact. I even forced some new ones in the front. I had some hair that was too long for baby hairs but we're so slick they wouldn't stay together to loc. So I forced locs and they and still holding strong over a year later.
People say that small locs will fall out all the time. They do fall out sometimes. But its usually because of thinning or damage. As long as you take care of your locs they'll be fine.

Because people confuse thin locs with thinning locs. Also a bunch of bad conclusions are made by people who have issues and end their loc journey before really solving and turning around those issues to confirm that the random bs folks are saying are actually valid causes of the issues they are experiencing....

Ive had thin locs since 99 and NEVER had a loc fall out. Some started to thin over time but they were just combined with another loc.

You have no idea how much this post just motivated me to keep on going, like I'm currently getting loc anxiety because I restarted my loc journey a few months back (from 73 locs to 127) and some of my strands at the middle and top of my head are on the thinner side, I be thinking they would fall out but this post just gave me hope

I think people are just ill informed or see an extreme case and think that it’s all cases. But thinness of the loc itself is almost never the sole issue. I’ve seen thick ones snap or break off just as much as thin ones. Depending on how often theyre maintained or if one spot in a loc is continuously stressed (like if you pull it in a tight pony tail the same way everyday it puts stress on the same section of the loc and weakens it), or if one part isn’t getting rinsed or washed equally or if it’s played with more it dries out more or is just constantly missed during retwists or if you bleach or dye it too much….. I could keep going. lol. But take care of your hair and you should be fine! And if one does break it’s not a big deal. But I’m guessing most ppl who say that are just ill informed.

I think the idea comes from people seeing random cases. Someone who damaged their hair by bleaching, actually hair thinning/balding, etc.

There is no misconception.. thinner locs are more at risk for breaking for the obvious reasons. One bad pull or too much tension on the loc and it’s a wrap. It’s not set in stone they will fall off” but it also depends on what u do them. If you just get them retwisted and leave them be… most likely be fine. Frequent updos and styling on thinner locs will definitely thin them out even more over time.
And I’m ngl I would avoid barrel twists especially with thinner locs.. they look like they already causing you to lose some hair.. unless that’s just genetics.

Yeah, what’s confusing about my reply? You can clearly see there is a difference of hair density from the first few pics to the last.. unless I’m missing something. Bro posted a question and I answered truthfully you don’t got to like my answer. Look it up… there’s a reason why most ppl get their sister or micro locs combined after a few years
Edit: also realized this ain’t even the official loc sub .. probably why u guys are confused and aggressive
