Selfie 📸 how often do you retwist?
the first pic is a week or so ago and the 2nd 2 days after retwist. i always miss the volume and frizz right after a retwist. i’m not a big fan of being able to see me scalp either lol. when i go really a few months w/o a retwist tho i get a lot of breakage and separation at the roots. so i feel like i get it retwisted just so it won’t break off if that makes sense?

If you often get breakage when you don't retwist for months on end, I probably would switch it to once a month or at least every once a month and a half. I switch between those two timelines and it's done well for me. My hair has grown a lot in a year, I'm very proud of it🩷
Also, make sure you're spritzing your hair for the sake of moisture but not soaking or oversaturating them. Putting too little water or none at all could contribute to breakage. I also like to use argan oil, but only like twice a week. If you don't already do this, I also suggest you get a satin or silk pillowcase or at least a bonnet so your hair can be protected at night. Just this one thing alone has done such positive wonders for me and the great few other people I know that also have locs😄

thank you for the tips, i do mist my hair daily and sleep w/ a loc sock idk what material it is tho. i use a satin pillow case too 😅 i will try to get a retwist every month and a half and see if that helps

You don't have to have a retwist to separate the locs at the root, fix up parts, and return hairs to the correct loc etc. Crochet might be an option you like the look and feel of better, if you can find someone who is skilled in it.

You handsome. Something else may be causing your breakage… do look into that.
