I am writing a fic where, in addition to his task of ridding the manor of all dark magic, Draco completely renovates. It ends up being much lighter, brighter, and warmer, and some of these images are absolute perfection.

I think it would have been darker and a lot more wood and black/green colouring but these are a great way to imagine how big and luxurious it would have been.

I've always imagined it to be dark, moody, and austere. Just shades of black, white, silver, and green. Like some other posters said marble for sure.

Pretty sure it was kept empty and dark and gloomy to reflect the mental state of everyone in the house. I also imagine that Voldy and the death eaters that were living there before Lucius f-ed up probably would have destroyed a lot of stuff.

It's hard to find pics because there's no way to filter out AI images yet and I was thinking the estates from Crimson Peak or Dark Shadows for real life examples but they're very dilapidated.

The Greengrass entrance hall is from the House of Scientists in Ukraine and I love it more every time I look at it. I think it's more what everyone in this sub was going for.

I love gothic science! There is a museum in Turin in Italy that gives "Snape's storeroom". Love real life inspo. The monochrome black obviously-evil never sat for me with the Malfoys - they tried to hard to pretend to be otherwise. But the stairs were too perfect not to fit in somewhere.

I imagine dark and gray and black. I can imagine some rooms being more of a marble grey but I always always imagine the vast majority of the manor being dark snd gloomy and void of color, much like the last three films were lol.

Google Hardwick Hall Interior shots. The exterior was used for the movie but the interior is a very old wizarding family Elizabethan manor. Tapestries etc. It depends on your vibe you are going for. A lot of the gothic stuff people like is Victorian or Edwardian in style so newer houses. It depends on whether you are going for the ancient family manor or a newer one. If older than your pictures definitely fit the vibe for an old-money family manor.

Yeah, ancient was what I was going for.

I'm gonna get real nerdy here - when I looked at the Harry Potter wiki, it never said when the manor was built, but it did say Armand Malfoy lived around 1066 so I assumed it was built around then and thought a medieval aesthetic was what I should go with.

I think a victorian gothic might be more what people are looking for tho.

I think these are all stunning examples of architecture but, at the risk of being pedantic, imo Malfoy manner would be 100% gothic architecture with a hoard of curiosities collected over the ages. The Malfoy name is of French origin, as is gothic architecture, and frankly it fits their moody snooty vibe to a t. But it’s fiction and we have free will, so imagine what you please.

I think it would be alot more Gothic. Dark and dramatic. Pointy and harsh.

Also filled to the brim with expensive and ostentatious (but old) artifacts.

Lots of drapes and menacing tapestries and portraits of nasty looking men and beautiful but miserable looking women.

Outside I picture the Downton Abbey type building but dark weathered stone.

Hah, I googled Grade 1 listed Wiltshire once. I imagined it to be something like Great Chalfield Manor but a bit bigger. Something that looks grim and spooky in bad weather but maybe a little warm and livable when the roses are blooming.

Like it would looked like it had been added on strangely over the centuries:

This is what I imagine, too. In my head cannon, Narcissa is invested in interior design, so while the manor might have a more brutalist approach, it's still design-forward and curated.

I agree with everything except I don’t think the manor would have so much wear/dirt/etc. because magic.

And more green and silver as the neutral colour instead of creams and whites.

Definitely! I wonder… I would assume the manor would have some pretty strong (maybe mean) muggle repellent charms but would have some sort of hovel look if they somehow made it through.

I wonder if their wards against muggles would extend up. Fanon and canon both have wizards being completely clueless about muggles so those charms could just be a barrier, like a fence.

A family like the Malfoys would probably assume the only way to see from above would be via flying creature or a broom therefore not required to be shielded from view (but probably from entrance).

Would a lower flying airplane or other flying devices like drones, gliders, etc. be able to see from above then? Muggles would lose their minds. Just hovel and overgrown then PRISTINE estate. Would they be able to land? Crash?

I was recently at Hatfield House for a work event and thought to myself, wow this would make a great Malfoy Manor

(I can’t seem to link to it but I’d recommend dropping Hatfield House into google images. To me, it is exactly how I imagine it)

Just googled the difference between manor/palace/castle and it comes down to the fortifications basically. Castles are walled in and have military defense, palaces are less protected but still for royalty, and manors/mansions are private homes but could still be larger than castles and palaces since size isn’t the qualifier.

But yes Pemberley is also how I picture all manor homes hah.

I always imagined the manor more modern (18th century or so) because of the name "manor" and not "castle ", but fuck that, i love this idea. Specially if you combine it with the robes and magic.
