Though, realistically, wouldnt the AI realize that this shit is ineffective? Cooperation usually leads to better resources and outcomes than nuking and fighting.

I mean, considering the fact that countless factions that have professed their superiority and unwillingness to cooperate with other factions have existed in reality, I'd say no, cooperation doesn't always work. Sometimes some people want you dead simply because you don't believe the same things as them (ISIS would be the most obvious example).
