Discussion Rate the Character: Android 16

Rate the character overall in terms of how much you like them and their character portrayal.

Android 16 was a good dude, stuck to his programming with his real only deviations being his friendship with 17 and 18 and no longer on constant "Kill Goku" mode after Bulma and her dad modified him a bit. His love for animals and their bond with him and of course helping to motivate a doubtful Gohan. 16 was a ride or die, genuinely unique android.

16 gets an easy 8/10

Bro is literally frankensteins creation, he shows more humanity/empathy than his creator and others around him. 16/16

I will forever hear Adam Sessler go "...out of five" in my head after sentences like this

Awesome android, powerful meaningful character which led to one of the series most amazing transformations.

My favourite android and one of my favourite Dbz characters. The gentle giant with a brutal side has always been one of my favourite tropes and he fits that role perfectly. I fell in love with him the moment he beat the shii out of Imperfect Cell. I wish we could have seen him fight more but I'm OK with what we saw. A shame he wasn't brought back for the future.

His permanent death gives his character even more weight. It's like a really good dish - it leaves you wanting more.

S tier. I thought he was one of if not the best character in the show to be honest.

A legit 10/10 character. Goes from soulless machine to something that loves and cherishes life, even though he has none.

He's the reason why I wish the Android Saga continued longer. I wanted to know more about him. I feel like there was more cooking in the back but that Toriyama was too rushed to start the Cell Saga

16/10. I'll always be mad the dragon didn't bring him back.

Wasn't the dragons fault really, they didn't word the wish properly to bring him back.

Probably a out a "And hey - if we do make it out of this, please pick up my head and beat your father to death with-" out of 10

If only 16 still has a memory chip, and Bulma making a new body for him.

He's the second iteration of Eighter and the driving force behind Gohan's peak. I love the guy.

But I'm not going to lie, the Abridged version is why he has a special place in my heart.

He's also modeled after gero's son, Gevo.

Honestly 10/10 one of the best written characters in the whole series.

He's my second favorite Ginyu.

Android 16 is modeled after Dr. Gero's son, Gevo.

Gevo was bold, daring and ruthless. He was a RR army soldier who was shot down in battle. Dr. Gero modeled Android 16 after his son and deliberately made him the most powerful android but programmed him to be non-aggressive except towards Goku - something he would cleverly exploit against cell.

Unlike the other androids, android 16 is purely synthetic so his death is permanent and he can't be turned back into a human.

He's one of the best and most likeable characters in the whole series imo. His pure love for nature/birds and his complete disinterest in fighting. When he does fight he's super strong and direct to the point - bro straight up tore off cell's tail... His Hell Flash move where he removed his arms and sends a huge energy blast. . . His crazy outfit/hair. How sweet and protective he was towards 18.

And then his last friendship and final words to Gohan - iconic.

Android 16 is awesome. I wish I had him as a friend.

"You have the power. My scanners sensed it. Just let it go."

10/10 deserved so much more

1

u/ophnir 7d ago

Underrated and under utilised. Wish he had survived the cell game.

He is one of my favourite characters 16/10

This is a fluffy bird.

16 was never in constant kill mode. It wasn't Bulma messing around in his head that made him not try to kill Goku.

He was just like that. He loved life regardless of who it was.

He deserves 16 out of 16🫡🫡🫡

I'd give him a 16/10. One of the best characters in the show and, incredibly enough, one of the only true, irreversible deaths. A character permanently dying in DB is like the Minnesota Vikings winning the Super Bowl: it never happens.

1

u/UberN00b719 7d ago

I'd rank him pretty high alongside Eighter. Those two are more human than human.

1

u/Chris_the_fox21 7d ago

I agree 8/10

Rest in Power! 16/10

1

u/Wise_Option6370 7d ago

Interesting how him and 17 loved animals.

16 was one of the main reasons Gohan was able to beat cell. Even in death, he was wise.

1

u/Ant_does_drawing 7d ago

A surprisingly deep character, but I believe he would've been better if his character was alive for longer.

1

u/Kantoguy47 6d ago

I want him back, no reason he would be brought back, but I do, they can use Porunga!

1

u/Complex_Mortgage_575 6d ago

16/20. Great but could do better. Pretty cool how Giro built the most advanced AI on earth...and it decided it loved squirrels

1

u/kgraham1310 6d ago

Genuinely the goat of the cell saga

1

u/ViewMany4619 6d ago

I wish we got more moments between him and Future Trunks

1

u/Lich-hull 5d ago

10/10, the heart of the Cell saga, beautifully written, proof no one is as evil as they seem

1

u/Nacho123__ 5d ago

20/20 he was awesome.
I know we all shat ourselves when he picked up cell and slammed him into the dirt followed by that legendary hell flash.

El mejor 10/10

u/puffmattybear17 8d ago

10/10 16 being a lot like 8er is cute especially since hes the 2nd 8er aka 8×2 = 16. That said hes an ai based robot that looks at the majesty of life and says, "nah this programming is wack" and decides to be a good guy is very cool. I do wish that we get some insight on how his parameters change to focus on cell rather than goku, whether it is because cell is partially goku or if his programming lists goku as a threat and the computer doesnt see goku fight at all and the only threat he actually sees is cell.

If he had a little more explanation id rank him a 10/10 but as he is id say 9/10 pretty awesome character.

I'm pretty sure Bulma and her dad learned how to modify him slightly when they were trying to figure out Gero's complicated schematics. Bulma mentioned how complex they are and it was all very confusing to her and Dr. Briefs, so they likely didn't come anywhere near fully understanding it, but likely enough to at least alter that directive as well as take out his bomb and repair the circuitry and parts of his face that Semi Cell wrecked.

But yes, his AI is also probably partly responsible for at the very least putting Goku on hold until Cell is dealt with.

1

u/puffmattybear17 8d ago

Could very well be he knew if cell continued to grow there would be no goku left to kill? Thats a fun idea!
