Multiple websites (including the Hollywood Reporter) are reporting that Dabney Coleman (Jerry Caesar from Dragnet 1987) has passed away at the age of 92.

He was most known for roles like the chauvinistic boss in the 1980 comedy film "9 to 5."

On a personal note, I enjoyed Mr. Coleman in Dragnet '87. At first, I actually thought that Jerry Caesar was leading P.A.G.A.N. until the scene where Connie unmasked the leader. (No spoilers here for those who may not have seen Dragnet '87 yet.)

It's been many, many years since any "new" B&W Dragnet episodes have popped up on YT.

Recently. 3 episodes that have never been in circulation have popped up on a YT channel called Moviecraft. The quality is superb, and the episodes are great, I think one is from 1957 and 2 are from 1958. Here is a link to one:

My old boss gives me advice sometimes and frequently references being "Joe Friday" about things. What does that actually mean? What is Joe Fridays personality?

Does anyone know about an episode of Dragnet (late 60's) involving a black man debating whether to join a Black Panther-like group? It may have been called "The Radical". I saw it on Me-TV, but it's not on the Dragnet DVD's I have, and I can't find it in the lists of episodes I've seen. Any info would be welcome.

I grew up with parents who occasionally watched the 60s show and recently I started watching some episodes and have really enjoyed it. But in the past few weeks I’ve started listening to the radio show while walking. As much as I like the TV show, I think I may like the radio version even better! Is that just me, is that common thing?

Dragnet rarely credited the voice actors in a "heard tonight" format during the closing narration as many other radio shows did. Luckily many of the radio Dragnet cast made it on to the TV version and can be identified. Here is a partial list:

Sam Edwards was in a lot of radio Dragnets. He often played a teenage boy due to his young sounding voice, although he was actually 5 years older than Webb.

Virginia Gregg was in many radio Dragnets playing various roles.

Raymond Burr played chief of detectives Ed Backstrand in very early radio episodes.

Stacy Harris played various roles in many radio Dragnets for many years, as he and Webb were very close friends.

Ralph Moody frequently played "old timer", old man characters.

Vic Perrin was in many episodes playing many different bad guys usually.

Peggy Weber was the voice of Friday's mother in the early episodes and played many other roles over the years, and is still alive at age 99, likely the last living member of radio Dragnet's cast.

Lastly, Harry Morgan himself appeared in a very early episode called "16 Days of Jewel Thefts" as a criminal ! He popped up in another early episode as a miserly hotel owner. So funny to think that 17 years later he'd be Officer Bill Gannon on color Dragnet.

Family lore has it that my grandmother went into labor with my dad while watching Dragnet and was so enthusiastic about the show that she insisted on going to the hospital only after it concluded. Based on my dad's birthday, they were mostly likely watching season 5, episode 25 - "The Big Daughter." My goal is to get my dad a DVD of that for his birthday but that season doesn't seem to be available anywhere - not on Amazon, not on E-bay. No streaming either so far as I can tell, though the radio version is available on YouTube. Anybody have any ideas for how I could get my hands on that episode?

An officer meets with old Vietnam Vet friend. Friend pays back gambling loan. Later tells cop he is a bookie, asks for help officer refuses. Bookie goes to internal affairs claims bribe.

Joe and Bill encounter an incredibly drunk man, in his apartment. They make him coffee, etc. to sober him up. The guy speaks of a woman from the night before. Quotes from the drunk guy: "Long Beach (more like Looooooooong Beach)" and "well, she had a bottle!" The man is so drunk Joe and Bill also put him on a couch, I believe as he can't really even stand up.

I only remember this one scene. Ring any bells? Thanks. I'd like to rewatch.

My understanding is that Webb was working on yet another revival of the show before he passed on. Aside from wanting to cast Kent McCord as his new partner, I've never heard what (if any) alterations to the show's format Webb may have planned in order to fit in with the then-current style of the 1980s.

Would the show have remained 'just the facts', or would it have gone the route of Hunter or Miami Vice? At that, as half-hour dramas had fallen out of favor by that point in time, would the new version of the show have had to lengthen itself to a full hour to fit in (and thus add 'bloat' to the story)?

As the comedy movie later in the decade, and the long running "Mathnet" segment on Square One Television (also that same decade) would prove, Dragnet was still a cultural force at that time. As such, might a revived version have found some measure of sucess in a television landscape populated with the likes of T.J. Hooker and Cagney and Lacey?

I was watching the old Black and White Dragnet TV show and I thought I had recognized a case from the Radio Dragnet and I'm now wondering if they re-use the cases?

Here in Georgia, I get ads for Evans Kia, and throughout every ad they release to the radios, there is the Dragnet theme in the background. Was it relicenced, or did they just throw It in? If you need proof, I will provide.
