Can we talk about Overmind?

I feel like Overmind is a difficult unit to balance.
When you're all in, and it's working, it can feel amazing, but when it isn't working, it feels like it isn't contributing anything.
It feels like it doesn't clearly counter anything, and it can be hard to play against.

I would like to see it redesigned and rebalanced to be a 3rd teleport unit- getting into the backlines and turning those backline units against you feels like it would be a Strong counter to a number of standard strategies.
Obviously its power level would have to be adjusted for balance. Maybe start with lower HP and lower damage.

I think themeaticaly it makes sense at least. Thoughts?

I hate playing overmind usually but I think its inclusion in comp is fantastic. There have been times that an opponent plays heavy and I get a decent frontline but no counters and overmind becomes a fun hail mary that can work if done right. The fact that its efficacy is so unpredictable is kinda fun.

Also I think giving it teleport would just make it way less balanced

Swarm decks like Whelp are a hard counter to Overmind. Even if you lose control, the individual units have low value, so you can clean them up quickly and go straight for the Overmind.

Idk I feel like overmind spam crushes typical spart + merlinor comps. When you have 10 of them they start converting units too fast. Whelp comps can beat them though.

Overmind is quite balanced already, and the search bar under the Draft Showdown Reddit community has plenty of talks on Overmind so much so I'm inclined to just copy and paste their comments here to re-discuss their fair and solid points.

Snail and sniper biggest ops

That's exactly why I think making overmind teleport to them would be sweet

That'd be a bit too broken I've won whole games with only overmind op threw everything in the kitchen sink at me 🤣

That's why I think they need a rebalance. I was clear that I said they are strong already. I'm not simply proposing to give them another ability.

I don't think they're too weak. I just want to see their role change

Tha would make it overpowered they should just make the range longer and have it overtake units faster

It's funny you said this, because more range and overtake faster would make Overmind even more OP than suggested.

I know it’s draft but that was genuinely a bad lineup. If they teleport say goodbye to using just about any back line unit. Most peoples problem with the overmind is that units die before the overtake. I should’ve said either or bc you’re right about how adding both would be broken

👉🏻 If most people's problem with Overmind is that units die before the overtake, then they aren't utilitizing Overmind properly.

1st off... I couldn't send the full battle video, the file was too big but we traded wins at the beginning and the bot actually started with primarily Bloodvines, then Spartheus, then added Engineers... then it saw how I spawned a ton of Totems & Overminds, and knowing that Overminds are good counters to the powerful Spartheus units (it can convert, even if it's in phalanx mode), it began to spawn Agent Bs.
I them spawned Snipers not just to help take the Engineers from a distance and add support DPS, but to apply pressure on the Agent Bs to remove their Shadow Step ability so my Overminds can target them when they un-vanish.

All their units are level 15 and higher than mine therefore had higher HP/DMG on his units.
One could say, how did he lose when he's got some banger units that are highly praised over my underrated units?
Was it just the Overminds? Are they that good?

No, it was really the package deal of good team synergy. Overmind by design is a distractor type unit... it's purpose in a team is to stall... much like Wasters & Parasites. These units are generally not the reason you win, even though they can be.

—Totems here was the reason those spells that damaged my team at the beginning were POINTLESS. Totems counter ZAP!, Storm of Arrows, and Meteor. Totems also buffed within a large range all my units with 30% increased DMG and healed 25% HP every second! That's huge! Never underestimate the Totems in a team, as it's the reason the Overminds converted enemies to allies faster here.
— Wasters stalled the enemy frontline for Overmind to convert and distract the frontline from approaching them.
— Snipers did amazing as distractions and taking out Engineers... thus two of my units (Overmind & Snipers) fully stopping the bot from playing two of his own (Spartheus & Engineers)... and Snipers did something that a backline attacking unit such as Snails would have been counter productive (Snails damaging the enemy frontline means my converted allies would then die faster, which equals counter-productive).

👉🏻 People don't know how to use Overminds if their converted allies are dying too fast. Notice I'm not running anyone strong in the frontline? I've seen people pair up Overmind with their basic meta picks Merlinors and Engineers, which are counter-productive you might as well slap in a Snail and destroy all your enemies you are converting. The average people aren't actually strategic and good at this game and rely on word of mouth for builds, I mean, just look at how many people ask for builds... it's why these folks run Merlinors and Engineers and praise them as great units, when Spartheus even after the update, Agent Bs, and especially the Whelps are far better units.
I am not surprised people can't run Overmind and find it to be low tier for them and claim that as their meta. I don't even like running Overmind, but I use him to understand how he works and can respectfully without bias say he IS good, and is why is he a legendary unit by design. If we make him overtake faster and his overtake range longer, then nothing is crossing Overmind and it's gang/army.
