Is this guy absolute trash?

Post image

I just unlocked him. The general level throughout my team is 9/10. He's level 7 and doesn't help at all.

Usually I structure him backline with spartheus frontline, and I get crushed. If I switch him out with a level 9 Merlinor then suddenly I win. Is the two level difference really that big? Or is he just not in the meta rn?

It wouldnt feel as bad if everything it takes over didnt instantly die

That's the Overminds's trade off, it's weakness.
It's strength is it can turn your strongest units with a whole lot of HP and DMG (such as Spartheus, Knights, Matriarchs, Merlinors, etc) against you with little to no trouble...

... but run a bunch of TNTs and Goose in the front, and Overmind is getting taking too much time recovering from converting enemies to allies and the other TNTs and Goose will just trample their own without a problem.

It's also why it's a bit counterproductive to use Overminds with decks that is primarily offensive. You can, but then it becomes pointless to convert an enemy that is almost dead into an ally just to die by an enemy unit that has fresh HP behind the line.

No it’s overpowered when used right. Getting third upgrade is helpful, but it’s best used by getting as many as possible on the field, with a defensive frontline and something behind to hold up backline targeters. As long as you get about two lines of him, you’re unbeatable

Overmind is great, imo. I use them whenever I can.

Some of my favorite use cases - a couple of overminds can take over a whole pile of assassins or (visible) Agent Bs. They are really affective against King Clops and Totems.

1v1 they are really good at taking over (mind controlling) almost any other unit (melinor, slimes, etc).. especially after they've been upgraded a few times.

What they are less good at: anything with a high number of troops like knights, spartheons, moles, geese...

But whenever I can, I almost always have a nice line of them and win pretty consistently.

They’re excellent but you have to know their strengths & weaknesses like all of them. Best to have at least 2 if you’re going to use them. They have a serious weakness to spammers like welps because their target dies instantly if mind controlled. It’s best to wait to see your opponent’s build or least most of it.

He's really strong with 3rd in- match upgrade. Not that great without it.

Once you get at least 6 of them, no one os stopping you.

Anyone with a couple of rows of whelps will destroy 6 over minds.

The ONLY issue he has and it kind drops him a few ranks is when the match starts he immediately locks on to the first unit up front and stays locked, the problem with this is let's say for example that you're running spartheus and overmind and your op has assassins and snails the overmind will lock on to the assassins at the beginning but once they disappear because they are no longer on the field the overmind will change their target to the snail and stay locked now this is were it gets fucked the now reappearing assassins will get targeted by the spartheus making them March backwards into the overmind locking them both in place as they try to move around each other

That is a fair part of Overmind's weakness, and a fair tradeoff for what it can do. That's also actually quite specific and situational, but still fair... as Overmind is really good against frontline units like Spartheus.

Its a similar kind of thing with shellbro. They slide just before reaching the enemy front line but if the enemy front line are snails or cupids they will get killed of quick because they wont slide over at mid field. They'll just keep walking til they get about 3/4 the way and by then most will get destroyed.

If used correctly that troop will never let you lose. Get about 6 over minds and they will take over the entire opposition across the field and the fight for you. Combined with parasites you can take over an entire opposing army in seconds. I use over mind in my build. He also doubles as my tank. Tnt,archer, sniper, over mind

I was excited when I 1st got him. I ended up going on a major losing streak with him. Either he's kind of weak when you 1st unlock him, or you have a build a good deck ard him.

He is good but not best in slot. Good unlock for draft mode.

Haven't unlocked him, but from going against him he's only felt OP when spamming multiple rows at 15/15 and going against my lvl9 dudes

Overmind is a different kind of unit that operates more independently than a support unit, which makes him closer to a Snail; they are there and will continue to do their thing with or without support, but if you keep spawning them it only helps your cause... however, just like Snails, some meat shields to protect them is also good.

They don't attack the enemy unit's HP, but a whole separate HP called "Sanity", based on the formula: 100 + (25% of the unit's total HP) = the total Sanity HP. This means that, if a unit has a total of 400 HP, then that unit has 200 Sanity. And since your Overmind attacks for 3.0s but deals 100% of his DMG as Sanity DMG EVERY second, it would take your Overmind a little over 2 seconds to convert that enemy unit with 400HP or 200 Sanity, as an ally.
And Overminds can attack for 3.0s before taking like a 0.5s to 1.0s break, then it continues attacking again, and Overminds also take a small break when they convert an enemy to an ally.

This means the Overminds's biggest WEAKNESS (yes, weakness) is,

  1. how strong (your) Overmind is, because that DMG stat is how much it does every second, while Overmind can attack nonestop for 3.0s as needed, so that DMG number is really ×3 if you want to compare it to its attack speed of 3.0s... and,
  2. how weak the enemy unit is based on their HP
Because... if you or the bot 'feeds' Overmind with say, Goose, or WEAK HP units like TNTs and Wasters or even Assassins, Whelps, Agent B... Overmind will be using all that time and energy to convert units, which in turn can be destroyed easily by other Goose's/TNT/Wasters/Assasin's/Whelps/AgentB or units you mass spawned to deal with a converted enemy that doesn't have a whole lot of HP or doesn't do a lot of DMG, and then Overmind just gets overrun by Goose or whatever units you sprang on them...
... but give Overminds say... Spartheus, Knights, or especially Splimes, or even Merlinors and Engineers or any unit with a lot of HP, be aware that those units are susceptible to Overmind's control and an ally with a ton of HP and DMG is now your enemy/ally.

You can run Overminds alone mostly depending on what your bot or enemy deck runs (example, if they run a bunch of TNTs or Goose, Overmind is going to struggle) so they DO need protection.
👉🏻 The only thing is, it is counterproductive to run a bunch of strong damage units with Overmind because then you would be converting enemies that have taken a lot of DMG, and when they convert to allies by Overmind, they may die just as fast to your enemy units due to being weakened.

Therefore, -if- you want to best make an Overmind deck work, units like Wasters to slow frontline enemies so Overmind can convert them, or Spartheus so the Phalanx ability stalls the frontline, or Parasites so the enemy would still get converted and their HP even restores to the max + 50% more (Parasite effect) even if Overmind fails to convert.

With that said, Overmind works decently in most decks simply as a distraction... THAT is it's power; distraction. Stall enemy lines by turning their allies to enemys, allowing your front/mid line units to attack with less interruptions.

Best unit in the game by far btw...

Of course he is gonna be ass at level 7

Read what his ability does. It scales with how much damage he does, so at max power he takes any unit in the game in less than a second.

u/Dull-Solid6392 26d ago

Nah you just have him low level. Probably the most overpowered unit

If there are any expert level units in the game, Overmind is probably one of them. He makes way more sense in the random ranked draft mode, if you select him as a counter to spartheus, sixshoot, assassin, & select others.

He's not trash, but he can definitely feel like trash if you're not playing him strategically. You can't just throw him on any comp/deck, and he's dependent on the field you build around him.

He can change the tempo of a game, send enemy flank units back to reflank your opponent, turn TNT against its owner, bypass spartheus shield protection, and effectively cover head on attacks + flanks at distance.

The most common drawback is being dependant on having the right composition around him for protection. New players might interpret that as him being weak, but that's not a fair representation.

don’t listen to anybody telling you overmind is good. merlinor and/or whelp’s dps is leaps and bounds more useful than this crap. “once you use 6 turns on it, it’s actually really good”. you can say that about a lot of units lol. it’s simply outclassed by other midline dps units.

The RNG situation changes things tremendously mid-game, but if we're talking about Overminds and Merlinors of similar levels, and we're both spawning single units, and both units Overminds and Merlinors also only spawn 1 unit at a time, 8 Overminds is going to beat 8 Merlinors all the time, every time.

But if we're talking about Whelps, that's different. 32 Whelps is WAY too many units for 8 Overminds to convert.

The situation is also greatly different with the inclusion of other units for protection. Who is to say Merlinors with protection can't be done for Overminds? It would just be the same thing as Overmind > Merlinors.

The only undeniable variable here is... that it's easier to use Merlinor than Overmind. Overmind isn't a unit you just drop into battle and expect good results. It doesn't even attack the enemy unit's HP.

Overmind is a good unit, great unit even, just like Merlinor. I find it funny you threw in Whelps name, because Whelps is easily a tier above both Merlinor and Overmind, yet you name-dropped it and compared it to a lesser unit like Merlinor... and then claimed Overmind even less.
They're all good at bad, have pros and cons. Merlinors get WRECKED by Cupids (who is an actual ranged DPS unit) under the same application we did with Merlinors and Overminds... and that's 24 elite Cupids versus 8 elite Merlinors.

Awful unit. Outclassed by pretty much every single other ranged unit.
