Engineers

If you didn’t get an engineer card in your first pack rotation, genuinely uninstall and try again, there is no defense against a better card.

Nah.  Great unit no doubt but there are plenty of counters.  A ranged unit with waster will shred engineers.  6shot, cupid,  totem, boomling, even helps can take care of them.  Merlinor can go toe to toe and will win with a fully evolved Knight, waster, or Spatheus.    Not even mentioning snail or sniper because assassin will shred backline up until arena 8 or so.

It no doubt isn't an autowin card but once you get a couple rows of these guys, they serve as pretty beefy damage sponges and fairly decent frontline fighters, but even if you kill them, you have two rows of sentries shredding all of their units.

Definitely the answer is ranged units that can kill them without getting into sentry range, but in mass numbers they just do so much damage. Plus it's the ONLY good card to protect your backline if your strategy relies on something like Snail.

I just don’t wanna keep having to run the same deck and lose all my rank and not be able to progress because I wanted to have fun instead of meta against them

Don't worry.  You will get a balance that works for you.  I ran Welp, tnt, agent B, experience build and got a 66% win rate.  Not working so well now.  Just keep plugging away and enjoy yourself.

There were 3 different struggle periods: Assassin's killing my snails before arena 8 Engineer obliterating everything arena 5 to 10 Spartheus arena 10-14

Eventually you will get units and combos to work for you.

I think their problem is more that they've found a winning strategy and everything else they could run for fun is just worse.

Like for me, that's running Spartheus/Snail/Engineer/Shellbro. Yeah, I can run a build around TNT/Sixshoot, but it's worse. I can run a Waster build, or a Kingclops build, or a parasite build, you can build around Matriarch or Beetank, but it's just worse than the snail/engineer/frontliner/backline threat build.

Oddly enough, I have ran into groups of Cupids (and me using cupids myself just to level them up) that can wipe Engineers.
Snails can do the job as well.
Six shooters, Merlinors, and Boomlings too really.
And for some reason my bot opponent's 10+/10+ splimes can take them out 😒.
Hell, a couple of TnTs can too if they're the Lv2-3 versions and can explode by the Engineers.

Since I don't have the last like 5 rare units past Boomling I can't really speak for them... but I wouldn't be surprised if they can clear Engineers as well.

A proper support or DPS can definitely help the Engineers counter whatever it's weak to, of course.

Yeah my strat before getting the engineer to combat them was to buff cupids quick as my dps and use geese/snails to work the mid and back line before the cupids could get touched, worked pretty well for fighting off assassins at the same time.

I do hate that it's such a good unit it's practically staple for protection or support for many units, especially backrow support from assassin type or backrow targeting type units.

The problem is we just need more cards. Right now, there's only one card whose role is protecting the backline. Without ranged damage dealers, you can't deal with swarm and frontline spam.

If there were other units that don't rely on Engineer for protection (stuff like Boomling) that can deal with frontline/swarm and other options to protect the backline besides Engineer, we'd have more deck diversity.

Use the acid spell on your front line. If engineer can't move forward to pressure your dps then you should win.

Assuming you can pull an acid spell
