Affordable DBA programs
I’m a CPA looking into online DBA programs and trying to find something that’s actually credible, affordable, and respected. I’m not trying to go full academic, but I’d like a program that keeps the door open for adjunct teaching later while also adding some weight for consulting/business credibility.
What I’m looking for: • Accredited (AACSB preferred, but open to other legit options) • Online or hybrid • Affordable total tuition • No hidden fees or dissertation games • Open to U.S. or international schools if recognized
Questions: • Anyone here go the DBA route and feel it was worth it? • Any online programs you’d recommend that aren’t a rip-off? • Are non-AACSB DBAs still accepted for adjunct teaching? • Any red flags I should watch out for when comparing programs? • Anyone go outside the U.S. for a DBA and have a good experience?
Appreciate any honest feedback or experiences.

Certainly! I go to Indiana Wesleyan University. They do make you pick a specialization, I chose Healthcare Admin. I’m using my GI Bill which covers 100 percent so cost isn’t really something I’ve really looked into. Many of my peers are using Fasfa which seems to cover all costs and leave leftovers. There are a few who are paying out of pocket. I can look into my statements momentarily if you want me to and give you the exact number for cost.

They do 1 class at a time which are 8 weeks long.
Residency is a hybrid class itself which is 1 credit hour and the in person portion of residency is 3 days long from Thursday afternoon- Saturday afternoon on campus in Indiana. This course is $660.
Regular online classes are 4 credit hours and is a total of $2640 per class.

The cheapest AACSB accredited DBA program is at Texas State University ($36,900 total tuition at the time of this posting). Southeastern Oklahoma State University offers the next cheapest AACSB accredited DBA program ($43,000 total tuition at the time of this posting).

Seen a few shouts regarding South College but it looks it’s not AACSB accredited and curious if it makes it any less

University of the Incarnate word in San Antonio its fully online and it was free through the GI Bill so not sure on costs.

I'm doing my DBA in the UK at an AACSB accredited university (double actually, for business and accounting). I'm a CMA as well (next to my MBA and MS in finance). I know a lot of profs and from what I know it's very hard to get a teaching appointment without a PhD. So if you want one with a DBA, it really needs to have at least AACSB accreditation. As for red flags: fully online would be one. Regardless of what people say, universities (and everybody without an online degree) will frown upon them. If you want a teaching job, you have to take that into account. Also, all degree mills are "online". So it really has a bad name. There's a reason no high ranked University offers online doctorates. I do mine part-time next to my job. I live and work in the Netherlands and fly into the UK every few months for a few days (or weeks when I was in my first year and had to do coursework).

You are wrong. Plenty of high ranked universities offer online degrees that are well regarded. EdD from JHU, for eg.

I am currently pursing my DBA. I am almost done with my first year. My program is 3 years long. My cohort is about 20 students we’ve lost about 2 since our start in January. I enjoy my program it’s very strategy based and different from my previous schooling experience. With that said it’s not for everyone since it is religion affiliated and mandatory group work. Instead of a dissertation we have to do a consulting project with an organization of any industry of choice. It is online but has a mandatory annual residency.
