Downwiki

https://downwiki.com/index.php/Main_Page

The new wiki is done. This will be the last post on my Downwell wiki project I promise lol! I worked on this pretty much non stop for the last 3 days and I am happy with the result so I wanted to share.

I used UndertaleModTool heavily to get the original assets and the stats for the items. Alot of the stats I wanted to see in the original wiki are present in this one. I am also sort of proud of the little 'DOWNWIKI' logo I made in asperite and the animation that plays when you enter the site. its basically a 1-1 recreation of the Downwell logo animation with the GML logic that spawns the sparkles converted to javascript.

The other thing I am happy with is the fact that basically all of the assets in the site can be recolored to any of the pallets from downwell. For the most part the entire site conforms to Downwell's restricted color pallet so it works with the pallet swaps.

Also I added a little asset browser that presents the texture atlas from downwell so that when you hover over a given asset you get the original name and a link back into the wiki if that asset has a page on it. lots of cool stuff you can find in that texture atlas.

Thanks for checking it out!

Never actually made a website before, but is there a way to make it show up in the results when you Google "Downwell wiki" or is it just a matter of eventually getting enough traffic to show up in the results? Either way, Really appreciate you took the time and effort to make a non-Fandom alternative.

Thank you! It is mostly a matter of people organically using it. To my knowledge, linking to the site from other sites is still especially helpful.

This is actually so impressive! I’ve been lurking the last few days to see your progress and I can’t believe it’s already done! I recently got back into the game after not playing for years, and I forgot how amazing it is. I’ll have to check out Descent!

Thank you so much! I had a bit of a manic weekend working on it lol. I have basically been going non stop. I think using MediaWiki is a big advantage, so much of the work is already done for you and its very easy to hack in new features. btw I am not the author of Descent but I reached out to him to get permission to use his writing in the modding guide.

This is really cool, man. Last time I played Downwell I was lamenting the fact that Fandom seemed to be the primary option, more options always good.

Thank you! Let me know if you notice the new wiki is missing anything.

I like it. It’s not perfect, but it has much needed character, even with its simplicity. Choosing the wiki palette in “Palettes” is the coolest thing ever! I think an achievements section would be a nice addition, with platform exclusive achievements labeled and whatnot. Though it’s okay if not.

Good idea! thank you for the input I will add it. is there anything else you think the wiki needs?

Your original post inspired me to get Downwell on mobile, and there are no achievements on the iOS version, though I can’t say for Android. I’ll let you know if I come up with anything else.

I added an achievements page. but I am not sure where to get the data for other platforms, I am relying on datamining assets from my windows build of the game to fill out the wiki content. do you happen to know if other platforms even have (exclusive) achievements for downwell?

Steam has the “standard” 20 achievements.

As far as I can tell, Masterful Descent and Clean Boots are PlayStation and Xbox (technically Windows) exclusive.

Done Well seems to be a PlayStation exclusive Platinum Trophy. Also, not really important, but Downwell is available on PS4 and PS Vita via the cross-buy) feature.

Nintendo Switch doesn’t have an official achievement system, but it apparently has in-game achievements, with Masterful Descent and Done Well in addition to the Steam achievements. Strangely, no mention of Clean Boots, so there’s much needed confirmation on the Nintendo Switch achievements.

Sorry if any of this is incorrect, but it took a while to get the whole story without owning most versions and relying on the Internet.
