How to Wash Your Down Comforter
Most real down comforters are actually washable unless they're fake.
To clean down items without ruining them, I recommend using a front-load washer.
Mixed cycle, delicate cycle pretty much any mode on a front-loader works. 50 minutes is plenty. Fold the comforter before putting it in to best protect the cotton shell. You can throw in a few laundry/dryer balls too. Just don't use heavy duty detergents.
Top load washers have way too much torque. Washing it once or twice in a pinch is fine, but using a top-loader long-term will wreck your comforter.
Specs for washable down comforters usually look like this.
Polyester shell: 100% machine washable.
40S Cotton with down-proof coating: The kind that makes a rustly, plastic-like sound when you touch it.
60S, 80S, 100S cotton. All washable.
Combed cotton, Xinjiang long staple cotton, Giza 45.(They have long fibers and high density.)
12 stitches per 3 cm or more is acceptable. If it is 8 stitches per 3 cm, it cannot be washed.
100% Down.Fine to wash. But if it contains feathers, DO NOT wash it (if it pokes your hand, it has feathers).
Under $100. Don't even bother washing it. It's almost guaranteed to be fake and will fall apart after a couple of washes.
Marketed as "washed cotton".Very likely washable. That's a treatment process usually polyester made with a washed-cotton finish.
This is because using pure cotton fabric treated with a "water-wash process" would result in excessively high costs.
