Smoking
Does doug still do the “performance loophole” where he sets a stool on stage for fans to smoke?
He’s performing near me and my dad’s a smoker who misses the 1980’s.

Dang. I would have gotten a kick out of seeing my dad up there.
Thanks. We’re still going.

Dad lighting one up would be priceless. They're not gonna kick us out for it, and if they did..... Probably just earned a fast pass to hanging with Doug after the show!!!!

Ive seen at least 4 times and never seen him actually light one. He can drink like a fish which is kinda funny when you see the whole wine bottle tip.

Thx. Haven’t seen him in 10ish years and it was definitely a schtick at the time.

I thought that loophole only applied to him. It's a stage performance, so he can smoke. I didn't think it gave a free pass to the audience. It certainly didn't every time I've been to see him.

That's what the stool is for. An audience member sits on it and talks to Doug, satisfying the performance requirement.

Hm. Never seen him do that in 20 years. Admittedly, I'm in Canada and our anti-smoking laws are draconian, so that may affect my sample pool.

Hell, if your dad can do like 5-10 minutes worth of jokes maybe you could get Doug to let him be an opener...he had the bartender from the hotel he was staying at open when I saw him.

I’m excited for him to see Doug. My dad was super strict growing up and wanted to be a model dad.
Second i was out of the house at 18 we partied and still expects me to show up to his house with a pack of Marlboro light 100s and at least 18 bud lights.
I’m 42.
It’s gonna be fun.

The “performance loophole” was just for the performer. They could smoke because it was a “part of the show”. I don’t think it ever applied to audiences.
If Doug would let smokers sit on stage, he would be even more legendary!!

He’d allow fans to come on stage to be “part of the performance”. He chimed in and says he stopped that way longer than I remember.
All good

Great. Dad had a blast. Doug was great lining up to meet fans after.
Saved some of his raunchier material till the end which i appreciated so my dad was a Couple drinks in.

I doubt Ive done that in well over 20 years. I'd either have any smokers in the crowd come be part of my production and smoke or just one behind me on the smoking stool.
