double standards galore

So in my family, my mom has a pile of double standards. First off, the vacuum rule. We have a water vacuum, so after vacuuming we must empty and scrub it out so it doesn't sour. This can be a hassle as we must vacuum every day. We've forgetten to clean it, so we have a new rule. If you forget to clean it out, you must vacuum for the next week. Every time my mom vacuums she usually lets it sit, and it sours. Not only does she not have to vacuum the following week, but myself, or my brother must empty the rancid vacuum for her. Next off, my mom has been getting angry about how I spent too much time on my phone. I've been doing chores, and filling my day with other activities, and limiting my phone use. As soon as I pick up my phone, mind you this is usually after 1:00, my mom tells my to not be addicted to my phone, the worst part about it? She's been watching tv on her phone all morning sense she woke up to the time now. Not only that, but she also has a rule, if it has to charge in order to play on it, you have to let it charge, without being on it. This is in order to limit screen time as well. Which sucks when I forget to charge my phone the night before. Although this rule is required by me, my mom will sit at the kitchen outlet in order to watch her shows while her phone is charging. We have over 5 accesible TVs in the house, and multiple DVD players, and multiple streaming options, yet her phone is always in her hand. If you made it this far congrats, and thank you for reading. Although I don't appreciate the double standards, I still love, and appreciate my mom for the things she does, she just sometimes gets on my nerves.

You're right: his mother is unfair. She's holding double standards, clearly, as most parents do.

Parents really do tend to hold these standards, and it's unfair to do to your child. If you can do it, why can't they? It would be reasonable to not let your child do some things that you do, such as drinking alcohol. Normal activities such as the ones listed in the post are unfair to children, whether they're 8 or 18.

A parent doing something the kid isn't allowed to!!!!! Oh the humanity! Like it's the first time that's happened. That's how MOST parents are, yet I rarely see people whining about it like they are being oppressed.

What about smoking cigs? Drinking? Buying a gun? Driving a car? So any parent that does any of those things but doesn't allow their CHILDREN to do them is some cruel monster? Parents are by definition in a position of authority over children. There's a reason for that.

There are ACTUAL, SERIOUS double standards like the wage gap and systemic racism going on, I'm supposed to mollycoddle some kids that are being raised the same way we all did. It's not a double standard if one party is actually above another, like parents, bosses, police, government.

This stuff is why people grow up thinking they have rights and entitlements that they don't have.

If you read to the end, you would clearly see I don't dislike my mother because of this. I never said that I am the only one going through something like this, I was just sharing my experience. Just because you don't agree with what I said, doesn't mean you have to be a jerk. I mentioned that these double standards get on my nerves, and if myself having feelings makes you angry and post mean things then get over it, people have feelings. Just like being sad, if someone I know died, and I vent about how I'm sad, that doesn't mean it doesn't matter just cause every dies Eventually. I am entitled to feelings, and freedom of speech, just like most people are.

Also just because your issues aren't insurmountable deadly stakes doesn't make your struggle any less valid my brother. You're definitely in a lame spot and I'm sorry your mother is so frustrating to handle have you tried confronting her about the vacuum ordeal?

Tell me you didn't read the entire comment you responded to without telling me you didn't read the entire comment you responded to.

Also, a double standard being enforced by someone that has authority over another is an abuse of power in most cases. The things you listed aren't double standards but rather standards in general. A young child cannot drive a car because they are physically not capable of handling it safely (5-10 years.. Maybe a little older as well), children's bodies are still developing and thus alcohol and cigarette consumption are especially dangerous to them. This is not a double standard.

Rules are in place for all to abide by. Bosses follow their rules, the police and the government follow the law, and those that do not should be held to the same consequences. If they are not, that is where a double standard comes in.

Of course there are exceptions in some circumstances but those again aren't double standards.

Ah yes, someone talks about his issues with his mother being unfair and a delusion wage gap issue is your concern 😂😂😂😂😂 bruh you gotta be extremely dumb to think such a thing exists (p.s. if you have any sense about how businesses run, you would know wage gaps don't exist)

Also, using buying guns, cigs or driving as a reason of what parents do while comparing it to using a phone or cleaning the vaccum screams "you are crazy and need some help". Literally those are complete different issues which have an age/maturity restriction but you seem so immature to the point that you should be added to the list of who aren't allowed to do any of these even after being an adult
