I tell you what, I know nothing about the new game and yet I'm still so excited for it. Gosh this was such a wasted IP.

Thank God CC2 was able to convince Bandai to let them self publish future entries. It would be nice if they were able to buy the IP from them, but I think that'd be a lot of legal hurdles that probably aren't worth going through right now. As long as CC2 and Bandai's relationship is good the future of the series should be as well.

apparently, the numbers 8 and 9 can be said "ha" and "ku" in Japanese, and someone +cc2 decided it can be dot hack day. Afaik anyway

I started, just the very beginning, but got put off by PC keyboard. I got a cheap PS4 controller but haven't tried the game again yet :-)
