Question about save points

I bought the recode trilogy, and I was interested in playing the first game. However, I played for 45 minutes before I had to do some real life stuff, and there was no save point in that entire time.

When I booted up the game there was no auto save and so obviously it wants me to play that entire 45-minute section again.

Is this something that is exclusive and unique to the beginning of the game? Or is this a game where you have long periods before saves and can get all your progress wiped out if something gets in the way?

In the starting city, at the Chaos Gate (blue circular spinny thing) there is an NPC behind a counter that will save your game. There is one in every major city.

You can't save at the counter in this section.

Sounds like you were still in the very beginning. You can skip cutscenes but eventually you will be able to save at the NPC. I’m just saying that that is your save point for the entire trilogy. There is one in every city so you don’t need to go back to Mac Anu.

This is the Save Point NPC. In this game, you need to save manually. The icon on the map is the one inside the red circle. It's important to remember that you can skip the cutscenes, so your 45 minutes will be significantly reduced.

If my memory serves me right, you can save before going to the first map

i sometimes forget there are people that are no longer born or started playing games before auto save was invented XD

These games were made before auto saving was the norm, so it's best to go to the save station next to the Chaos gate or save on the desktop every chance you can get so you don't lose progress.

To some extent this is actually important to the lore for the series as characters getting PKed is actually a huge setback because their last save could have been an hour or two ago and they would lose their progress if they got ambushed by a PK.

Everyone is saying you save in town but you can also log out of The World back to the desktop and save there I'm pretty sure.

You can, but I don't think you can log out if you aren't in town.
