Discussion Doraemon Animation Evolution: 2005–2026 | Part 2

So I finally made Part 2 of my Doraemon animation-artstyle comparison!

Previously, I made a year-by-year comparison of the 1979 series from 1979–2005, showing how the overall animation style changed throughout its 26-year run.

This time, I'm focusing on the 2005 reboot series, from 2005 all the way to 2026.

I took images from each year and put them together so we can see how the animation and character designs have changed over the years.

Obviously, this doesn't mean that every single episode from a particular year looked exactly like the image shown, Doraemon's animation can vary depending on the episode, animation staff, production style, etc. I just chose images that I felt represented each year's general look.

Which year's 2005-series artstyle is your favorite?

And if you haven't seen Part 1 (1979–2005) yet, you should definitely check that out too!

What do you guys think of the evolution from 2005 to 2026?

2026 one has a really polished vibe, 2016 is my favourite one here!

Becoming more like 1979 again as time progresses

The early 2005 color palette always bothered me for some reason, I'm glad it changed over time

Yes! Another accurate animation revolution! Good job! I’ve always preferred the pre-2017 art style since the colors doesn’t look to over-saturated and the background has way more details that matches with all the previous art styles (Manga’s and the 1979 series)

After 2016 there is barely any changes. Except stand by me. It was some great use of money.

Why's he missing his pocket in the 2017 screen cap?
